Case in Point – (Chapter: Pedestrians and Memories)

Steaming water pelted her back as she stared at the sight in front of her. The shower was foggy, and she couldn’t make out who the person in front of her was. The fog didn’t, however, stand in the way of the immense connection she could feel with whomever it was. At most, she could tell the figure in front of her seemed to be small and fragile and all she wanted to do was –

Damn it! Spencer woke with a start as her alarm went off. It was the third time this week she’d that dream, and it was starting to get under her skin. She lazily slung her feet over the side of the bed and made her way to the bathroom. Flipping on the switch she began her morning routine: teeth, face, shower, hair. She wasn’t much of one for makeup, but like any other woman she liked a bit of flattery, and she took the time to carefully apply a little eyeliner and some mascara.

Not in the mood to put a lot of effort into her hair, she pulled it up into a messy bun and headed out to the kitchen. As she poured her coffee, her mind wandered back to the dream. Whomever the person with her in the shower was, she wanted to meet them. She immediately gave herself a mental slap to the face for thinking such a thing. Never much of a believer in dreams and their meanings, she decided to try to ignore it and get on with her day.

After returning to her room to get dressed, she headed out of her apartment and into the busy streets of Philadelphia. On her drive to work, she couldn’t help but to glance at the people walking alongside the street and wonder if it was them who was continuously invading her subconscience — every man she saw became a possible suspect. Realizing what she was doing, she shut her eyes and shook her head in an attempt to get rid of any ideas of trying to find him. Upon re-opening them, she had to slam on her brakes to avoid hitting the woman crossing the street at the crosswalk.

Having the sudden urge to roll down her window and scream at the woman for her carelessness, she realized that hitting her would have been her fault. Fucking pedestrian traffic laws, she internally cursed the P-DOT. Turning at the next left, she pulled into the parking garage and headed into her office building.
