Ever the Same – (Chapter: Ch. 28: The Pineapple Juices)

    So…talk.

It wasn’t exactly harsh, the way Ashley had said it. Nor was it in the nice category. It was something in between, and Spencer didn’t know what to make of it. The brunette was hard to read sometimes, and this was definitely one of those times.

No matter. The younger girl owed her an explanation, and she would give her one, regardless of her girlfriend’s attitude.

Spencer stood from her sitting position and offered Ashley a hand up, but the older girl paid no mind to it, as she stood and walked over to the couch.

After sitting, she motioned to the empty space next to her for the other girl to sit, as well.

Spencer took the polite gesture into consideration, while thanking the stars that Ashley was, at least, being civil. However, she shook her head, declining the offer to sit. It’d be easier to talk if she was standing – since she liked to pace and all.

“Whenever you’re ready,” Ashley said nonchalantly, somewhat agitated, while picking at her nails.

The blonde bit her cheek, trying to think of what to say. With a sigh and a slight head nod, she proceeded.

“Well, I guess I’ll just start from the beginning,” she said. “I’m sorry.”

The brunette glanced quickly at the other girl, before turning her attention back to her nails. “Mhmm…” she hummed softly.

“Well, I, uh…” Spencer trailed off. The next time she and Ashley were going to have a serious talk, she was going to write down what she wanted to say, so she wouldn’t get tongue tied.

“Anytime, now, Stutters,” Ashley interjected. Continuing with an un-amused voice, she added, “Here, let me start you off.” She put on a mocking tone, “Gee, I sure am sorry, Ash. I’m just so stressed, and it’s making me all bitchy, but I refuse to tell you what’s wrong.”

“Stop,” the blonde said quietly, with a shaky voice. She knew that the other girl was right, but it still hurt to be mocked.

“Why should I?” the older girl questioned, hastily. She got off the couch and walked forward to Spencer. She figured that she could be more intimidating that way. “That’s all you ever say, Spencer! You’re stressed about God knows what, but you never say why!"
