Give Up Forever To Touch You – (Chapter: 2)
In the early morning light Spencer Carlin made her way across town on her bike. Steam poured out of the sewers, a stench of human waste wafting into the air. As she peddled on, the sound of honking horns and jackhammers filled her ears. Her wavy blonde hair was pulled into a loose pony tail. As she approached St. George Hospital she slowed down and hopped off her bike, securing it to a nearby pole. Making her way inside, her red converses pounded against the linoleum of the hall floor. Spencer passed by cheap knockoffs of Monet and Van Gogh, stumbling through the lab doors. She hurried past technicians who were hunched over microscopes, none of them paying the least bit of attention to her. Late, I’m always late. She opened the door to the women’s locker-room and began to peel off her clothes. Her tan skin glowed in the sunshine and the taught muscles of her stomach flexed unconsciously as she strained to get her sweater over her head. Pulling on a set of hospital blue scrubs, the blonde made her way to the OR.
Shoving through the door she approached a slender woman in her early thirties. She was wearing a white lab coat and was fixated on a set of x-rays pinned to a board.
“What we got?” the blonde asked.
The woman didn’t even flinch, “50 year old male had a huge interior MI this morning, he collapsed while jogging, paramedics resuscitated him but his EKG is pretty ugly, he’s hypertensive.”
The blonde tilted her head knowingly and glanced at the x-rays. “This diagonal looks too tight” She points at the screen and the other doctor follows her gaze. “Who cathed him?”
“Rosenburg” her colleague muttered.
The blonde let out a frustrated sigh and began to walk out of the room. Spencer pushed the door open, “Patient wants to meet you”.
Spencer looked back over her shoulder and with a brief nod turned and made her way into the operating room. Three nurses were gathered around an operating table on which lay an elderly man. His hair was graying and his eyes had bags under them. Spencer made her way over to him and stared down at him cautiously.
“He’s pretty out of it” a nurse mumbled as she was preparing the surgical tools.
