I pushed open the big wooden door without even knocking, it was useless half the time you couldn’t even hear anyone knock, the house was incredibly huge, but knowing my Shannon she would be in the kitchen with a snack food of some sort, a few cans of diet coke already extinguished, I few magazines opened and many papers scattered across the island. She was a list person, couldn’t do anything without a list or agenda. I turned the corner and walked into the kitchen to find Shannon sitting on a bar stool sipping her drink while she was on the phone with someone, Blake was surveying one of the two very large refrigerators.

“Hi” I whispered to Shannon as she rolled her eyes to the person on the phone

She smiled at me and held up a finger signaling one minute, she slid off her barstool and walked over to one of the bay windows that overlooked the river.

“Hey babygirl” Blake said shutting the fridge and setting down two cans of soda

She pushed one towards me as she opened hers.

“Who is she on the phone with?” I nodded over to Shannon my voice still low

“Couldn’t tell you, her phone rang and she started ranting about something before she answered, like another language”

I laughed, and she looked at me like I was crazy.

“Most likely her father, they only talk like once every two weeks”

She nodded but I don’t think she understood, so I elaborated.

“Her parents are divorced, her dad lives in San Francisco…with a producer named Johnathan”

“Ouch”

“Yeah, it was rough for a while, but at least she’s able to talk to him on the phone again”

“How long ago was the divorce?” she asked whispering not wanting Shannon to hear

I thought for a minute, “Eight years” then I laughed and so did Blake

“Well I’m glad that she was able to put it behind her after such a short time” the sarcasm in her voice was evident and I laughed again.

Shannon isn’t the most forgiving person in the world, it took her a month to talk to me again after I pushed her into the pool while she was holding her cell phone, even after I bought her a phone better than her previous one and she pushed me in first.
