    Spencer found herself tuning out many of the preachers words, her eyes staring off into the distance over his shoulder. Every so often she’d scan the room, looking for something although she wasn’t sure what. Around the middle of the service she realized she was looking for the brunette from the photograph. It didn’t seem like she was here, and Spencer was both relieved an a tad bit disappointed all at once. She hadn’t desired a confrontation or anything, but she was curious to see what she was like. After all, she had slept with her dead fiancé.

    It felt like an eternity, but eventually the service did end. Spencer and Glen were two of the few dry eyed patrons in the place. She didn’t know why she hadn’t cried, the idea had just never occurred to her. Her eyes just felt itchy and abnormally dry. And Glen hardly ever cried, so there wasn’t much of a surprise there. Now they had to make the journey to the cemetery, which was located just behind the church. By now Spencer was so out of it, she was virtually ignoring the people who approached her with condolences, her eyes just glazing over a bit as she brushed past them. Glen would give a little shrug of apology and follow behind his sister, his hands finding the pockets of his black slacks.

    Soon the large group was standing in a circle around a rectangular hole in the ground, the stiff silence still hovering over the crowd as the varnished wooden box was lowered. It had been a closed casket, because no amount of toothpicks and make-up could repair the damage that the grill of a semi truck could cause. Spencer stared as the object was gently maneuvered into the ground, the words of the preacher once again fading into static. Her thumb absentmindedly traced her scar, finding the risen flesh abstractly comforting.

    For some reason she found her eyes drawn upwards, and as they rose she realized she was standing directly across from the woman in the photograph. Their eyes met, and for a piercing moment, Spencer swore she could feel her heart stop. She couldn’t place the expression on the brunettes face, but it was somewhere between fascination and cold dislike. Her eyes were a chocolate brown, although they were hardly warm and likable. They looked rather hardened actually, and Spencer suddenly felt very unsettled. She was definitely very attractive, which placated her somewhat. Honestly if your going to get cheated on, it is just more salt in the wound if the person is unattractive. I mean, what does that say about you?
