    Love Letters – (Chapter: 1)

“Not everything at the same time.” Aiden finished my sentence.

    I nodded, “Yeah.”

I went off to basic training without a word from Ashley. It hurt that my best friend didn’t seem to care. I spent nine consecutive weeks learning everything that I needed to survive. I was running obstacle courses, learning self defense, and shooting guns. It was hell on earth and I wanted to quit at some points in time. But every night before I went to bed in my bunk I looked at a picture that was permanently burned in my memory. It was a picture of Ashley and I. I knew what I wanted to fight for, and I sure as hell wasn’t going to give up on it.

After my nine full weeks of basic training I graduated. My parents and my brothers were at the ceremony to see me receive my highest honor so far. I was now a member of the United States Army and I swore to defend my country. My parents were proud. My father cried a little and my mom was the stiff upper lip that she always was. Glen was still an ass. And Clay was still…Clay. But seeing them there only made me miss Ashley even more.

The first day that I went back in town I didn’t bother going straight home. I went to Ashley’s. I was still in uniform. I had on my military garb and I wasn’t exactly blending in with the streets of Los Angeles. I pulled up in the driveway, walked slowly to the door, and rang the doorbell. There was no answer for a few minutes and then finally Ashley came to the door.

“Can I help you?” she obviously didn’t realize that it was me.

    “Hey Ash.”

She looked me up and down. The camo didn’t exactly fit my usual style, “Um…hey.”

    “Can I…can I come in?”

“Uh…yeah,” she opened the door the rest of the way and let me in.

I broke the ice, “So how have you been?”

“Spence, please. Do you honestly care how I’ve been?”

My eyes narrowed and I was just a little bit upset, “Yes Ashley, I care. Even though I left I still wondered how you were. I still worried about you.”

    5. its really neat. I actually did a fic with Glen being in the ARMY. I was in the ARMY, I ended up getting honorably discharged for a back injury in airborne school. I was in for a year. Just a few things, AK-47’s are what insurgents in Iraq use, we used M-16’s and a few other weapons. Being in the ARMY is a great thing, I was active duty. Totally going to go National Guard when I heal. Keep it up.
