makedamnsure – (Chapter: Six: Pieces Mended)
“And as much as I hate to sound like I’m bragging, I’ve never really gotten rejected in my life before. It’s kind of something new. So when you turned up with Adriana, it was like this huge slap in the face, even though I have lead you on and turned you down over and over again. And I’m really sorry about that, by the way. I just felt as though you wanted to be with me just so you could say that you have. And when you gave up that quickly on me, I don’t know… I felt unimportant, like I would just be another notch in your headboard,” Ashley admitted miserably, staring at Spencer’s floor.
When Spencer didn’t say anything after five minutes, Ashley sighed. “Um. Well, I’ve said what I came to say so I guess I’ll be going now. See you in school, I guess.” Ashley got to her feet.
“Ashley.”
Ashley turned to look at the blonde. Spencer was staring straight at her with an unreadable expression on her face. “Truce? This time, for real for real.”
Ashley laughed, relieved. “I’m really, truly sorry Spence.”
“I’ll forgive you, on one condition.”
“What’s that?”
“You are no longer allowed to flirt with me, Ashley. It’s not fair, and this is non-negotiable,” Spencer said sternly.
“Well, if I’m not allowed to flirt with you, then you’re not allowed to come on to me too!”
“Nope. It doesn’t work that way.”
“But-!”
“Do you want my forgiveness or not?” Spencer smirked.
Ashley sighed. “You don’t fight fair.”
Spencer laughed. “What made you decide to come over anyway? Only because you don’t seem like the kind of girl who apologizes even though you know you’re wrong.”
“Delilah,” Ashley said as an explanation.
“Oh. Do you just do whatever she tells you to do? You’re like Delilah’s bitch, Ashley!” Spencer teased.
Ashley snorted. “As if! … Okay well maybe. But that girl is wise. She knows what I want when I don’t even know what I want.”
“It sounds nice to be in a relationship,” Spencer mused.
“Don’t you have that with Adriana?”
“Aid?? Oh nooo. We’re not together. It’s just sex.”
“I never understood how you could just have sex without any emotions. We’re not robots, you know.”
“Ashley, I hate to break this to you, but I don’t think robots have sex,” Spencer said seriously.
“Shut up. You’re mean. I just don’t get it. I could never do it,” Ashley shrugged. “Um, I should go. It’s getting late. I don’t want to intrude.”
“Are you sure you don’t want to stay for dinner? We’re having crepes. They’re supposedly very good,” Spencer teased.
Ashley laughed. “I think I’ll pass on that.”
“I didn’t see your fancy Lamborghini Michelangelo outside though,” Spencer said.
“Murciélago!!”
“That’s what I said!”
“That’s not what you said, and you know it. I took the Porsche instead. I didn’t want to attract too much attention,” Ashley shrugged.
“Ashley honey, no matter which of your seventy two cars you drive out, you’re going to attract attention,” Spencer said, full of mock-sympathy.
“You know, I never gave you your key back, so I don’t really understand why you’re being so chatty,” Ashley said, waving the imaginary key in front of Spencer’s face.
Spencer laughed. “I don’t want to sound like I’m jinxing it, but I have a feeling that we’re gonna have one hell of an interesting relationship.”
