    My Best Friend’s Girlfriend

Spencer was taking the books out of her locker.  “So who’s the mystery girl, Mel?” Spencer asked her best friend with curiosity.  “I so want to know the details.”

“No one,” answered Melody as a blush crept up her cheeks.

“For it not being no one, you sure are getting red,” Spencer mused.  “C’mon as the best friend I so have to know who the lucky girl is.”  Ashley walked towards Spencer and Melody.

“Hey girls,” said Ashley with a smile.

    “Hi, Ashley,” Melody said.

“What do you want, Ashley?” sighed Spencer.  “Don’t you have someone else’s life to ruin for a change instead of mine?” Ashley’s smile faded.

    “Spencer!” Melody said.

“What?” asked Spencer angrily.  “The girl is obviously up to something for her own benefit.  She only cares about herself.  Why else would she talk to us?”  Spencer realized who the mystery girl was.  “You’re dating Ashley?  She’s your mystery girl?  Out of all the girls in King High, you have to choose her!”

“Spence, take that back,” Melody pleaded.  “You don’t even know Ashley to say that.  Ashley’s a really sweet girl.”

“That’s not true,” pointed out Spencer.  “I’ve known her a lot longer than you have.  We go way back, Mel.  Whatever she told you, I’m pretty sure that it was a lie.”

“Spence,” Melody sighed.  “I want my best friend and my girlfriend to get along.  I want you two to at least be civil to one another.”

“I-it’s okay, Mel,” lied Ashley.  “I’ll go leave you two to talk.  If you need a ride after school I’ll be here until a little after 3.”

“Alright,” Melody stated.  “I’ll see you later.”  Ashley gave Melody a peck on her lips and Spencer rolled her eyes.

“Uh it was nice seeing you, Spence,” said Ashley.  “Hopefully we could hang out sometime?”

“Don’t try playing the nice girl with me now,” Spencer replied annoyed.  “Don’t call me Spence.  Only my friends call me Spence and you’re not my friend.”  Spencer walked away in a huff.

“What’s going on with you two?” asked Melody with concern.  “Did you two date or something, Ash?”

“We used to be best friends since we were little kids,” Ashley answered.  “We met when we were in pre-k.  We were inseparable and we used to look out for one another.  I wasn’t that great to her once Madison moved here.  Madison got instant popularity and she took an interest in me.  She told me that I had potential for being popular or whatever.  I would ignore Spencer and treat her like garbage.  She would still follow me around like a lost puppy though and I took advantage of her always being around.”
