Ashley was slouched on a chair after putting her phone down and looked to the bar, wanting to see Spencer, however she wasn’t there.

“Snap.” The blonde’s voice floated over her shoulder and took the chair opposite Ash. “Running late?” She asked, Ashley was slightly taken back by the Spencer now staring at her.

“Um, yeah, she is still with her mum.” She explained. “Where’s Aiden?”

“Stuck in traffic it would seem.” Spencer smiled. “But I’m glad that they aren’t here.” Ashley suddenly sat up to attention, there seemed to be a change in her friend, and she didn’t want to miss a word.

“You are?”

“Yes, I wanted to talk to you, and tell you I’m sorry.” The brunette frowned at the last word. “I know that you and Sophia are, well you know getting together, and what I said and how I acted was not right.”

“Spence…” Ashley tried to interrupt her and tell her that there was no need to apologise.

“Please let me finish.” Ashley nodded. “I see you two together and it makes sense to me, but whenever I see you or just hear your voice, there is a part of me that knows I’m losing you. I could make you so happy Ash, I know I could and though I don’t want to stop trying, I know that I should, because…” The girl with her lifted her eyebrows waiting for a response. “All I want is for you to be happy, and if Sophia makes you happy then I need to step aside.” And then she took a deep breath. “And I love you and I have learnt when you love someone even if it hurts like hell, all you want for them is happiness. I will always be by your side Ash, if only as a friend.” It was taking everything she had to hold back the tears and these could have been the hardest words she had ever had to find. To tell the person you love that, you will always be there just as friend.

Ashley was at a complete loss for words, she had not expected to hear those words from Spencer, and the sad truth was that it had just caused her to fall more in love with the honest girl. She was just looking at the girl when she heard the song ’Chasing Cars’ by snow patrol, and for a moment her head became clear.
