No Longer Roommates, But Mates. – (Chapter: Reconciliation)
Ashley’s POV:
I don’t like having to go see shrinks or counselors or whatever. Maybe it’s because I didn’t live a great life before I met Spencer; my parents didn’t care about me, and pretty much nobody else did either. I had been the type of girl that didn’t belong to anyone, really. I had lived by a “Wham, bam, and thank you ma’am” philosophy. Spencer completed me- she was the person that I had been missing in my life. She made me want to do better in school, to want to give up that life of not giving a crap about anyone other than me, and she made me want to be a better person in general. All because I wanted her love. I’m kind of nervous right now as we walk to the counselor’s office, but Spencer gives me clammy, sweaty hand a reassuring squeeze. She’s doing the best she can to fix things between us. I know a part of her will never forgive herself for cheating on me just to get back at me. I can see why she did that though. She was probably so frustrated and sick of how I couldn’t get myself to trust her completely after all these years that she probably just snapped. I really want to work things out between us again, too. I know Spencer and I are meant to be together, but why did we screw up? Or maybe, the question is… why did I crew up? Spencer wouldn’t have cheated on me if I hadn’t gone out and wronged her first and upset her with my crazy insecurity.
We sat down on the leather sofa right next to each other. Spencer stroked my hand with her thumb, noticing how nervous I looked. The shrink, counselor, whatever you wanna call her, took a seat in front of us with a clipboard in hand. “So, Ms. Davies, Ms. Carlin, tell me about your relationship.” She said, adjusting the paper underneath the clipboard. I started fidgeting, but Spencer nudged me gently. “Tell her, Ash.” She said, smiling brightly at me. I took a deep breath. Calm down, Davies, you can do this. “We’ve been together for about 7 years.” I squeaked out. “We’re engaged,” Spencer began. “But lately we’ve been having…problems.” “You said Ashley had a problem with trusting you?” “Yeah.” Spencer said gloomily. “And why do you think this might be? Are there any times when you may have slipped up and given her reason to mistrust you, or is she simply paranoid for no apparent reason, Ms. Carlin?” the counselor said, peering at us closely. “I-, I have screwed up before towards the beginning of our relationship.” “Can you elaborate on this?” “I didn’t want to accept that I was gay, so I broke it off with Ash and almost got married to my ex-boyfriend.” “I see.” The woman scrawled something down. “So Ashley, tell us your point of view, why is it you can’t get yourself to trust your fiancé?” “I, I don’t know.” I mumbled, staring at my feet. “I guess, I guess I’m just afraid of getting hurt again. I’m afraid that I might lose her somehow, and it’s too hard for me even think about it, because, because she’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.” I choked out. Spencer put her arm around me and drew me closer to her. I held onto her for dear life. “I’m not going anywhere, Ash. You won’t lose me. It’s okay, baby.” She cooed reassuringly. I just wanted to go home; I didn’t want to let this stranger in on the things going on between me and Spencer.
“I don’t want to go back there.” I said, leaning against Spencer on the couch once we got back home. “Come on, Ash. We need to if we want to straighten things out. Don’t you want to get married? We can’t if we don’t face our problems right now and work them out.” She said, rubbing my back. “It’s okay, Ashley. I’m not too thrilled at going to see a counselor either, but I really think we need help in working out our issues.” I sniffled. “Spencer, I’m sorry. Why am I such a screw-up?” “You’re not a screw up, Ash. You’re my lover, my best friend, and my fiancé. You’re everyone that I adore, everyone that I love, and you’re also everyone and everything to me. Trust me, we’ll get through this, because I know my girl’s strong enough to.” She said, smiling and kissing me on the forehead. “I love you too, Spencer.” I said, locking our fingers together. I just hoped that we were on the right track now.

okay i get spence wasn’t drunk so ash is mad at that but i mean come on if ashley didn’t think spencer was going to cheat on her and than cheated on her in the first place none of it would have happened i mean she’s been loyal for seven years to ash, that one mistake in the beginning seven years ago ash so needs to get over that so they can try and get over the wrongs they’ve done to each other now in the present..

Yes, I too agree with dawniekey. Ashley is afraid to let go. I think that she’s afraid to be this person that loves hard even though she desperately wants to. Great update. I love them together. Keep proving Paula wrong!!!

Well thank god for that! At least they are on the right track now and if they are really going to move on they need to let it all go regardless of who did what and who went out and screwed up as a result as so on. I’m glad that despite all the pain they are willing to sit down and work it out – it shows a real commitment to the relationship which is going to be important while they dig through their painful past. Love this story soooooo much, pms!

I’m in agreement with dawniekey. Ashley’s insecurity is driving a wedge between their love for one another. If she can’t trust Spencer their relationship/marriage will never work. They both need to learn the lessons from this horrible set back and trust one another with all their hearts, only then can they live without fear. Awesome update…PMS
