    Spencer and Rachel have the conversation that could change everything.

     

                Spencer sat in a state of shock for several moments, hearing Ashley’s closing words over and over again until the sound of the dial tone brought her back to earth.

    “I can’t fucking believe this…” she said aloud, seriously considering calling Ashley back. But she knew that she wouldn’t accept her call and she didn’t feel good about putting Jan in the middle of their drama anymore—at least for now. Besides, she was too mad to talk. She was mad at everyone. She was mad at Rachel, she was mad at herself, but she was also mad at Ashley. The brunette was always so quick to react, never thinking things through, making fast decisions without considering their consequences.

                The mechanical buzz of the garage let Spencer know that her fiancée was home. The blonde met her at her car, too angry to allow her a moment more of peace.

    “Who do you think you are?”

    “Oh God, what is this?” Rachel asked, motioning to Spencer with her hands.

    “What did you say to Ashley? I need to know everything and I need to know it now!”

    “Ok, fine. But I’m not having this conversation in the garage. Let’s go inside.”

                Spencer sighed but relented, and she and Rachel walked into the living room. Spencer sat on the couch, tapping the coffee table with her fingers anxiously while she waited for Rachel to sit down. The brunette figured it was best to keep space between them, so she opted for her favorite recliner which was on the opposite side of the small room. After a moment of tense silence, Rachel finally spoke.

    “So, would you please explain—calmly—what the hell you’re so worked up about?”

    “Why would you tell Ashley that we have an open relationship? You know that’s not true…now she thinks I’ve been deceiving her when I haven’t!”

    Rachel replied without a second thought, “Why do you care?”

    “What do you mean?”

    “Why would it matter? If you two are just friends then why would it affect her one way or the other if you’re in an open relationship?”

    “Because…” Spencer said, stalling for time. She now feared that she hadn’t given this proper thought, “It’s just…it’s weird.”
