One Side Love? – (Chapter: A Sad Excuse for an Apartment)

Ashley snorted. "€œGlen and Aiden combine their money. Imari has a lawyer boyfriend who pays. Ted uses ten year old clothes and appliances and never shops anymore. And you and Glen came from a millionaire family."€ Ashley had always been resentful at the fact that she had no help whatsoever when it came to money. Her parents made it clear that if she moved to New York City she would be on her own, though her dad is a record label owner and her mom is a full-time criminal justice lawyer. Supposedly, it was their way of telling her that she should stay at L.A and not to become a photographer in New York. Now she was giving second thoughts to the four-year-old decision and that her parents were right.

"€œIt’€™s a billionaire family," Spencer corrected, her mouth twitching slightly.

"€œOh, excuse me."€ Ashley rolled her eyes.

    "€œBesides, it’€™s not like I see a penny of it anyway."€

Ashley stared at Spencer not believing one word she just said. "€œSpence, you claim live in an enormous apartment with three floors. You mentioned once that you own it and have already paid everything for it. You own clothes from the most expensive clothing lines. You have three laptops, the biggest size iPod, two plasma TVs, a huge stereo system, and I could go on. And you’€™re trying to tell me you never ever have gotten one cent from your parents?"€

    "€œThat’€™s right."€

"€œThat’€™s bullsh–."€ Spencer cut Ashley off by clearing her throat, she don’€™t like it when Ashley swear, "€œcrap! I was gonna say bullcrap."€ Ashley corrected herself with a grin on her face, something about Spencer made her happy no matter what…but what is it? She cannot tell nor dare to think about it.

Spencer smiled sheepishly. "€œWhy don’€™t you believe me? Is it so hard to believe that I know how to manage my money well?"

"€œIt’€™s very hard to believe. Especially, when your parents have millions of dollars."€

    "€œBillions."€

"€œScrew you. You’€™re just saying all this to make me jealous."€

The corner of Spencer’s lip twitched again. "œ…You believe me?"€

Ashley eyed her oddly. She asked, "€œYou made everything up?"€

    "€œI didn’€™t say that."€

    "€œBut you implied it."€

Spencer let the smile she’d been holding back come out. "€œI lied."€

"€œI figured as much. But about what exactly?"€

    "€œMostly everything."€

Ashley dropped the box she was carrying to the floor. "€œThen spit out the truth."€

Spencer sighed heavily and said, "€œI come from a dirt poor family from the bad side of Ohio. I had to deal drugs, while my adopt brother had to sell himselve."

    "€œYou suck in lying."€

"€œYou know me so well."€ Spencer giggled and threw an arm around Ashley’€™s shoulders. She gave her an awkward sideways hug and kissed her stubbly cheek. Ever since Spencer smacked a kiss on Ashley up on the rooftop, Ashley learned to ignore the touches, and brushed it off like always. "€œI was just messing with you,"€ Spencer said. "€œI have a substandard amount of savings. Well, more than you, but that’€™s not saying much."€

Ashley glared at her co-worker. "€œYou‘re lying again. You wouldn’€™t have given me sixty-five dollars if you didn’€™t have enough money. Why don’€˜t you tell me the truth? You always dive into your personal affairs. So, are they fake too?"

Spencer laughed. "€œNo. I tell the truth about everything!"€

"Then tell me the truth right now."€

"€œFine,"€ Spencer uttered. "€œYou know perfectly well that I live in a huge apartment in Manhattan, you’ve been there. It was my twenty-first birthday present from my aunt. She doesn’€™t have any kids of her own, so she likes to consider me as her daughter. And she’€™s not real rich either, but she loves me so much she bought it for me. Then she likes to send me nice, big checks for my birthday and Christmas."€

Ashley raised an eyebrow. "€œThe truth?"

Spencer raised her right hand. "€œI swear."€ Spencer looked around at her surroundings again and shuddered. "€œAnd I am telling the truth when I say that this place is a shabby hole that is a sad excuse for an apartment."€

She began to pull Ashley out of the ‘˜apartment.’€™

"€œWhat are you doing? I need to get—"€

    "€œYou can’€™t live here,"€ Spencer declared.

    "€œWhere am I supposed to go then?"€

    "€œWith me."€

    1. oh, btw guys. Sorry about the unknown symbol, I’ll edit it tomorrow. I’m currently on my cell phone. And, I’m so used to Ashley being ‘the lesbian’ and Spencer being ‘the straight’ girl, so I might mix up with Ashley’s bf as gf. If there’s any mistakes, I do apologize. xMitsu
