Stormy Horizons – (Chapter: 7- The Butterfly Effect)

“Hold on we will talk when clay gets down here.” About 5 seconds later Clay came in as if on cue. “Alright then,” My dad began, “We’ll get started.” I noticed that my mom wasn’t at the table or even in the house. “Your mom and I are getting a divorce.” This came as no shock to anyone considering what happened last night. “She went to stay at a friend’s house until this whole thing gets sorted out. You three will get to choose who you want to be in custody of, unless you can’t decide in which case you’d be with your mom on weekends. Spencer, this house may get very violent in the next few days. As a social worker I’ve come to learn that divorces are very messy things. So, if you want, you can stay with Ashley for awhile; same for you boys, choose a friend’s to stay at if you want.” There was no way I would object to the idea of being with Ashley for a few days, so I packed my bags and within a couple of hours I was being picked up by Ashley.

“Throw your stuff in the back and hop in!” she greeted me as she pulled into the driveway. Immediately after hoping in I kissed her cheek and we were off. After arriving at her mansion and unpacking my things in the guest’s room I went to Ashley’s room to see her.

“Hey Ash!” I greeted her as I walked in.

    “What’s up?”

“I was just thinking, we should go see a movie.”

“How does movie and a dinner sound?” she asked me.

“That sounds great.” I responded with a content smile.

It didn’t take long for us to get to the movie theatre which was only a few blocks from her house. We decided the movie we wanted to see and went to the line for popcorn. Upon arriving at the cashier Ashley began to order, “I’ll have a large pop and a popcorn please.” She asked the guy behind the counter. The cashier had been putting money in the cash register, but upon hearing the order his head shot up so fast I thought it was going to fall off.

“Ashley Davies?” he asked, which as creepy considering we hadn’t given him our names. We stood there speechless and equally confused.
