The Princess and The Puppet – (Chapter: Family Life)

    CHAPTER NINE

    SPENCER’S POV:

Ashley just dropped me off from school and right now I am on cloud nine. Every minute I spend with this girl I feel this unbelievable feeling, like I can do anything.  I can’t wait until we hang out this weekend. I put my backpack on a bench next to the front door and go into the kitchen for something to eat. I dig through the fridge and finally decide on an orange. While I am peeling my orange my mom walks in.

Paula: Hi Spencer, how was your first day of school?

Spencer: Hi Mom. School was fine.

I continue to peel my orange not making eye contact with my mom.

Paula: Did you make any new friends?

    Spencer: Yeah, a couple.

I finish peeling my orange and now I want to just go to my room.

Paula: Are there a lot of cute boys there? (smiling)

Spencer: (Here it comes. Her daily quest to convert me.) My just drop it. I’m going to my room.

My mom and I used to have a pretty good relationship, that is about 2 years ago when I told my family I was gay. She took the news pretty bad. She kept preaching to me that it was a sin and said I would go to hell because of it. Well if I go t hell for something I have no control over and for being myself then so be it. I’m not going to spend the rest of my life living a lie.

I really thought she would have come around by now. I mean my brother, Clay, and my dad are both very supportive of me.  Telling them I was gay actually made us closer. Now, I know I can trust them with anything I have to tell them and they wil always be by my side. My other brother, Glenn, had about the same reaction as my mom. However, he has gotten better with it. He can still be a jerk sometimes, but that’s just Glenn.

I have been up in my room for about an hour now unpacking and decorating my room. While I am putting some clothes away there is a knock on my door.

Spencer: Who is it? (I really hope it’s not my mom. I am not in the mood to hear one of her lectures.)
