This Love Is Friendship On Fire – (Chapter: 3)
As I re-enter the library Glen chimes in with “Munch much dyke on lunch Spence?”
So immature.
I’m about to respond but Ashley beats me to it. “Shut up Glen you moron.” I quickly turn to look at her. I wasn’t expecting her to jump to my defence. Not after how we left things before break. She ignores my quizzical look.
Apparently still in the dog house then.
So after the gruelling two hours of working on a project with four other people, without really interacting with them, I find myself relieved to be getting home by about 6 o’clock. As I drop my keys on the side table I shout to Kyla to make her aware of my presence.
“Honey I’m home, I hope you have the dinner on…” I laugh “and an ice cold beer in….hand.” I finish as she thrusts a bottle of Becks towards my hand for me to take. My grin reaches my eyes. She takes note of this.
“And that’s why you love me Spence.” She looks like she’s done something wrong. “And it’s also why you’re not gonna freak out.”
“Freak out?” I enquire “Kyla what have you done?”
“Well our study group didn’t lead to much work being done. Sooo they’re all here..in the living room, I promise we’ll be an hour or so tops.”
I groan audibly. So much for my quiet night in front of the TV. “Fine .“ I give in. “I’ll be in the kitchen getting drunk.” I laugh.
“You’re the best!” She sings as she kisses my cheek and then skips back to the living room. I roll my eyes and go and sit on one of the stools next to the breakfast bar. Five minutes in and I’ve finished my first beer. I hate it when they go down too nicely, it means things could get messy. As I pull another bottle from the fridge I notice Kyla’s stocked up.
I knew there was a reason for keeping her around.
I’m just finishing my third when the doorbell rings. I make my way to the front door and swing it open with more enthusiasm than what is needed. I think maybe the alcohol is already getting to me. I quickly recap on the day to try and recall what I’ve eaten. Nothing springs to mind. I was running too late for breakfast and skipped lunch in favour of coffee. No wonder I’m a little tipsy.
