    What are you grateful for?

    As promised the Carlin’s were out of bed and herded in the living room by five o’clock.  Michelle and Riley were a bundle of energy as they eyed their gifts beneath the tree, both tempted to reach out and shake the small beautifully wrapped presents.  Glen, or Santa as of last night, was in the kitchen preparing the coffee with help from his mother.

     

    A few minutes later the young man returned with a tray of steamy cups of coffee in one hand and a large black garbage bag in the other.  As the children and adults alike tore through their gifts, the wrapping was discarded accordingly.

     

    Riley was now the proud owner of a Sebulba mask and a complete Anakin Skywalker costume that was to be added to his already growing collection of Star Wars toys.  Michelle on the other hand busied herself with her new Barbie Princess and Barbie home that Santa had so generously given to her.

     

    Laughter and easy conversation filled the air amongst the Carlin’s as they enjoyed another successfully healthy holiday season.  The melodic doorbell soon rang through the home; Spencer took upon herself to answer.

     

    “Merry Christmas Spence.”  Kasey stood on her doorstep grinning childishly as a Santa hat clung to her head; the white pompom stood on end straight up in the air.

     

    “Merry Christmas KC.”  Spencer hugged the girl before standing aside and motioning for her to come in.

     

    “Mornin’ Carlin’s!”  She took a bow, the hat’s tip poking Riley in the forehead in the process.  JR giggled furiously.  “Look Kasey look!!”  He held up the Sebulba mask proudly.  “Oh. My. God.  That is coolest thing I’ve ever seen!”  She knelt next to him as he slipped it on, admiring the mask like the Star Wars nerd she was.

     

    “Wait….Do I hear Hilary Duff Christmas music?”  Kasey chuckled, shaking her head amused.  Spencer laughed along, they were listening to the radio and apparently Hilary had been requested.  “Even for you Spence, that’s a little creepy, no?”

     

    Michelle tugged on the brunette’s arm, pulling her out her thoughts.  Kasey turned to her and as she neared the girl, Michelle took the tip of the hat and twisted it so it settled on her shoulder as it should have from the beginning.  “What?  You don’t think Santa would wear his hat like this?”  Michelle giggled, shaking her head.  Kasey responded by tickling the girl before Glen and Clay stood by her side.

    2. i always loved this story.the relationships between ashley and spencer,and kyla and KC are just so sweet and beautiful.jeez that was kinda corny.lol.though if u did want to end this story one more chapter would probaly be good.PMS

    7. that was wonderfully, man kasey is like everyones little lap dog, she does anything to make the people she cares about happy even though she tries to uphold this bad girl image, it’s just so cute, i love how you went back and forth between the two families and things were the same but yet different, the carlin’s were more classic while the dennison’s were red neck….pms

    9. I have certainly missed this story and you told the Christmas story with both families so beautifully with a touch of charm mixed with humor. I cried several times with the “being thankful” monologues, which were expressed from the heart. The love stories you have so delicately weaved with Spencer & Ashley and Kasey & Kyla are nothing short of endearing and romantic. Well done…PMS
