    "But mom…"

"2 weeks," I said, "want more?"

Jenny sighed and got in the car, closing the door behind her. I was moving to get to the other side when I heard someone calling my name.

"Oh! Hey Jodi," I waved to the deaf woman who approached me and gave me a friendly hug.

"I need to tell you something Bette," she signed.

"Sure," I signed back, "how’s Chrissy? And the adoption?"

"Good, we’re going this Thursday to pick up our son," Jodi signed with a smile.

"You’re gonna be a great mother Jodi," I signed.

Jodi smiled at me and signed, "thanks Bette. Look there’s something really important I have to tell you."

    "What’s up?"

"Look Tom met up with a lawyer, he wants to take Cal away from you," Jodi signed.

"What?!" I spoke, then signed, "he can’t! That is my son!"

"His lawyer is this guy named Eric…"

"What? Eric as in Tina’s ex boyfriend Eric?" I interrupted.

"Yes! He vowed to take Cal away, they hired a private investigator to dig up dirt and make Cal’s life look like a mess," Jodi said, "Bette if they achieve this they can actually take Cal from you."

"There’s nothing to dig up Jodi, Tina knows every single thing about me and I know every single thing about her," I signed confidently.

"Just be careful, and I suggest you talk to Joyce," Jodi signed.

"She’s retired but her son is really good, thank you Jodi," I said grabbing her shoulders.

"What are friends for? I can’t let Tom take your son away from you after he abandoned him without a second thought," Jodi signed.

    "Thanks," I repeated.

"Bye Bette, good luck," Jodi said.

"Bye Jodi," I said walking to the driver’s side and getting in the car.

Jenny was eyeing me curiously, probably reading my easily readable expressions even though I barely spoke. My mind was full of worry. Could Eric find a way to use Candace or Henry against us? Or maybe the incident I went through when I was 15 in that alleyway? Or the fact that Jennifer Schecter was killed in the pool, and her death was a combination of a sleeping pill overdose, my sister putting GHB in her drink, and Dylan hitting her on the head? What if Max suddenly decided to leave Nikki and go back to Tom? Surely, as the legal and biological father of Cal, they have say in his custody!
