“I’ll try to do better from now on. But I can’t guarantee that I’ll eat much, because I really don’t feel like eating. I don’t want you to think that I’m giving up or anything, just because I’m not eating all the time.” Tina says.

“Okay.” Bette replies and gives her a little smile. Tina leans in for another kiss.

“Now, I’m going to take that shower.

30 minutes later they were on their way to the hospital. Tina is silent.

“Baby, what are you thinking?” Bette asks.

Tina looks over at Bette.

“I’m just thinking about how it will be.” Tina replies with a sad face.

Bette didn’t have an answer for that, so she took Tina’s hand in hers.

They walk into the hospital and take the elevator up to the right floor.

“Why don’t you go and sit down over there.” Bette says. Tina does as Bette walks over to the reception.

“Hi, how may I help you?” The nurse asks.

“I’m here with Tina Kennard Porter, she’s here for her first Chemotherapy with Dr. Mitchell.” Bette says.

“Oh yes, if you could take this and fill it out.” The nurse says and gives Bette a form.

“Thank you.” Bette says and walks over to Tina and takes a seat next to her and starts to fill out the form. Once she’s done, a nurse comes out and calls Tina’s name.

“Tina Kennard Porter.” She says.

Bette stands up and helps Tina up. They walk toward her and Bette gives the form back to the nurse in the reception desk.

“Hi, I’m Tina.” Tina says and smiles. “This is my wife, Bette Porter.” Tina introduces Bette.

“Hello.” The nurse says and smiles.

“Hello.” Bette replies.

“Well, let’s go, Dr. Mitchell is waiting for you.” The nurse says.

They follow the nurse down the hall and into a small office area and then finally Dr. Mitchell’s office.  They walk in.

“Hello, Tina and Bette, come in please sit down.” He says and shakes their hands.

They all take a seat.

“I know I said on the phone yesterday that we would start chemo today. But I’ve reviewed your file once more, looked at the ultrasound pictures, I’ve gone through all the tests. I showed them to a colleague of mine, who also is a specialist. And together we have come to the conclusion that we want to do surgery. Right away.” He says and looks over at Tina.
