A Neurotic Love Story (Chapter 3)
"Yours or mine?" Lara asked reluctantly.
"Mine. Sorry, babe," Dana said, reaching across Lara’s body to answer her phone. She checked the called ID. Alice Pieszecki. "Hey, Al."
"Hey loser," Alice’s perky morning voice replied. "Having a good morning?"
"Yes, thanks for asking. It’s awfully early for even you to call," Dana said. Lara smiled and took this opportunity to just lay on Dana and run her hands gently over her girlfriend’s flat, toned stomach.
"I was just checking on you, mopey pants. We’re all worried about you, and we have a right to be. With the thing with Lara, and then your parents…" Alice started to say before Dana cut her off.
"Mopey pants no more, Al. Stop worrying," Dana said coaxingly before sending Lara a beaming smile.
"What is this I’m hearing? You got laid? Who?" Alice said excitedly. Shane’s voice was heard in the background, asking who as well.
"Just an adorable little soup-chef," Dana said sweetly, knowing that this particular word choice would set Alice off more than anything with giddiness.
"Lara!? Really? Hmm…well, that’s fantastic, Dane. Come eat breakfast with us at The Planet. Drag both of your cute asses out from under those covers…we’re celebrating. I just have to call Bette and Tina, and convince Marina to get over here too. Maybe Jenny or the rest of West Hollywood. Sky’s the limit, Dane," Alice babbled into the phone.
"No, no, Alice. We’re staying in bed this morning. Lara doesn’t have to go to work today, and I’m taking a day off from training. Bed’s the limit for us," Dana said seriously. She knew all too well that this wouldn’t phase the great Alice Pieszecki though, she was far more determined than that.
"You’re not gonna win this. Marina’s already fixing you coffee. You know how pissy she gets when we stand her up. Must be a European thing," Alice said with her mock stern voice.
"Al, c’mon…we need alone time," Dana whined. She looked at Lara apologetically, but noticed that Lara seemed to want to go. She covered the phone with her hand and turned to her girlfriend. "You wanna go, baby?"
"I love your friends," Lara responded softly before kissing Dana sweetly. Dana smiled and mouthed Lara’s three favorite words. She took her hand off the phone and before she could respond, Alice’s protests were in her ear.
"You can spend alone time with the gang, Dana. Seriously. You’re going to become a damn homebody if we don’t nip this irresponsible behavior in the bud pronto. You remember how long it took us to write the Bette and Tina quiz? Yeah, I don’t want to have to rephrase all the questions for you, because I love you so very much, but I have a life, you know. We’re not letting you become boring, no matter how good the sex is, so I suggest you come down here in 15 minutes, young lady," Alice protested rather loudly. Lara heard her speech and began giggling, covering her mouth with her hand and cuddling further into Dana.
"We’re coming, Al. Jesus. Rapid-fire much?" Dana said.
"Sorry, sorry. See you in 15 minutes," Alice replied apologetically.
"You want us to get killed in traffic? We can’t even get showered and dressed in 15 minutes," Dana said, trying to barter time so they’d have more time alone together.
"Fine, 25 minutes. You’re so lucky I’m in a generous mood," Alice said.
"45 minutes, Al. We’ll see you in 45 minutes," Dana said, noticing that Lara was getting out of bed and motioning for her to come take a shower.
"Fine, 45 minutes. That should give you time to shower, get dressed, and drive here. But no sex. If you’re not here in 45 minutes, I’m assuming that you disobeyed me and you’ll never live it down," Alice said playfully.
"Trust me, I know how you are. See you in 45," Dana said before snapping her phone closed and scampering into the bathroom after her girlfriend.
