    Tina’s bedroom, late night: Bette and Tina are spooning in bed, Bette having dozed off and Tina still awake.  The blonde turns around to face her girlfriend and gazes at her while she sleeps. She touches and caresses the brunette’s face, looking thoughtful.

    Bette opens her eyes.  

    Bette – Awake …?

    Tina – I’m glad that you are here.

    Bette – Me too …

    She smiles.

    Bette – Then why this wrinkle between your eyes?

    She caresses the blonde’s eyebrows.

    Tina – I was thinking about one night … not too long ago … when I almost looked the other way … and chose a path that would take me away from you.

    Bette’s smile fades.

    Tina presses her lips together.

    Tina – I had such a heavy heart that night …

    Her eyes well up with tears.

    Bette – I’m so sorry, Tee …

    Tina – I wouldn’t have you here with me …

    The brunette wipes a tear falling down her face.

    Bette – Tell me what you are feeling …

    Tina – I feel sorry for myself that night … for that woman … that was so scared … and confused at that moment.

    She brings her face to her girlfriend’s chest and Bette embraces her.

    Bette – I know that it was not easy for you.

    The blonde sighs.

    Tina – Not easy that night …

    Bette – I love you.

    Tina – I love you too.

    Bette – Are you still scared?

    Tina – No. I’m happy.

    Bette – I’m glad you chose me.

    Tina looks up at her.

    Tina – I’m glad you happened in my life.

    She softly kisses the brunette’s lips and falls back into the embrace, closing her eyes.

    Bette kisses the blonde’s head and strokes her hair, an arm hugging her tightly.  

     

    Chapter 43  The Game of Love

    Bette’s office, afternoon: Alice is lying on the couch and Bette is in her chair, resting her feet up on the desk.

    1. Cute…. Alice is still Alice. She still cannot believe that Bette treats Tina differently from any other woman she has dated. Tina has no faults in Bette’s eyes….

    4. dbff, I’m so with you concerning Melvin/Bette. I never could quite understand why she accepted his condescending, arrogant behaviour. Even if you love your parents unconditionally, you can expect them to treat the person you love at least with respect and you should tell your parents to do so.
      But as you said, you’re writing a prequel so I’m fearing for the worst when it comes to their visit in Philly on Thanksgiving.

      Thank you so much for another cute chapter! Tina’s efforts to open up and include Bette more in her day-to-day life made me smile. She’s really getting confident with being with a woman. Next step: exchange of keys to the other’s home ;-)
