    “Well repay us by getting into the new house – getting the boys settled and getting on with your career “

    “I know – and I hate to sound like your publisher “

    “Well that’s okay then – so as your publisher – get writing again “

    “I have had an idea “ Bette looked sideways at Helena and tried to guess whether her best friend and publisher would faint or fall off the decking when she made her next remark “I even wrote a couple of thousand words “

    She wasn’t disappointed – Helena stood up and held the back of her hand to her head and did the full mock fainting routine – ending up on the grass in front of her

    “Excuse me while I rustle up some town criers and heralds to shout the pronouncement – all hail – Bette is writing again “

    Bette sprinkled some of the beer over Helena and laughed “Did I not mention it – it must have slipped my mind “

    “Yes why would you tell me- I am only your Publisher “

    Bette sipped her beer

    “Am I wrong to think that I’m leaving part of her behind ?”

    “No – its natural but you have to move on – maybe start dating again”

    “Oh no Helena – who the hell would want me – three kids, lots of pets and “

    “Oh listen to yourself Porter – you are one of the most beautiful women in the world “

    “WHAT ! “

    “I know your job is based on hyperbole and spin but come on “

    “Okay – world alert – Bette is ugly – we do not have time for this Porter but we will – and if you excuse me I see Lisa and Maggie lurking over there and I am going to get them both into their cat basket “

    4. sounds like me when i was younger EXCEPT that along with 3 boys i had 1 girl. it was a mini bus i drove. can ya picture that??? great chapter. hopefully tonight will be as good as the other 4. thanks.

    6. Christ Ally, The Brady Bunch crossed with The L Word crossed with The Simpsons. That is one fucked up pedigree! This should be a blast. Now you said the town was Jamestown and not Springfield, right? Hope they don’t have any problems with a dam nearby. Do we need to guess who the next door neighbor is?

    7. Don’t know how you do it Ally, but this is looking like another great story. The B&T version of the Brady Bunch. Plus, dogs and cats, sounds like my house minus the kids.
