All you need is love chapter 2

An hour later Bette was watching the last of her possessions disappear into the back of the removal van. She walked into the house now empty of all their belongs bare one – a photograph on the mantelpiece was too valuable to pack away

Bette moved across to it and took the padded envelope that she reserved for it. The picture was of all her family – before fate had robbed her of her wife — the woman she loved – the mother of her children. Emily had taken their youngest son Zak out for a drive because he was screaming all night and keeping everyone awake. It had been 2 in the morning and all the roads were empty except for one punk driver who was high on a cocktail of drugs and drink and had just stolen a car. And that car had slammed into Emily’s – killing her instantly. Zak – tied in the back had been lifted from the wreckage without a scratch.

That had been 15 months ago. 15 months ago that Bette had lost her sunshine and her life partner. She had somehow struggled on – if it had not been for her sons she would have curled up and withered away. But her boys had kept her sane – her boys and her friends.

    Bette touched the photograph.

“it’s the right thing to do Em – the place isn’t big enough for our boys”

Bette put the photograph in its wrapping and her eyes full of tears she locked the door for one final time – her heart still telling herself that this was some sort of betrayal.

The new house was an hours drive away – Bette was glad that Lara her live in nanny had taken the boys out for the day. The first two hours were insane – but three removal men, plus Alice – her madcap friend, Cybil – her friend from work and Helena – her friend and publisher all got the house into some sort of shape.

It was almost 3:30 when the SUV pulled up in front of the new house.

“it’s the boys “ Helena shouted from upstairs where she was putting up curtains in one of the boy’s room. Bette put the box down that she was moving and hurried from the kitchen to greet her sons.

Danny was first out of the car – 7 years old – confident and articulate – too articulate. Following him was Josh – 3 years and ten months old – and the ten months was very important. Finally Lara release Zak from his baby seat and he ran up to the house

    “Mommy “

Bette ran out to greet her boys who all reached her at the same time and hugged her at once.

“Did you all have a good day ? “ Bette looked at Lara who nodded

“We had burger and pizza “ Josh told her.

Bette picked Zak up and looked down at her other two sons

“Okay boys – lets go and see the new house “

“I better have the best bedroom “ Danny said taking off at speed inside and almost knocking Alice over. Josh raced after him and Bette heard the clatter as they tore upstairs. Just as Bette was greeting Zak with a kiss another SUV pulled up next door. Bette turned and walked down the drive to introduce herself to her next door neighbour.

    1. This is great! I am loving the Brady Bunch connection…if they do get together that can merge the 2 houses together and live like that…More please.

    2. sounds like me when i was younger EXCEPT that along with 3 boys i had 1 girl. it was a mini bus i drove. can ya picture that??? great chapter. hopefully tonight will be as good as the other 4. thanks.

    3. Christ Ally, The Brady Bunch crossed with The L Word crossed with The Simpsons. That is one fucked up pedigree! This should be a blast. Now you said the town was Jamestown and not Springfield, right? Hope they don’t have any problems with a dam nearby. Do we need to guess who the next door neighbor is?

    4. Don’t know how you do it Ally, but this is looking like another great story. The B&T version of the Brady Bunch. Plus, dogs and cats, sounds like my house minus the kids.

    5. Interesting, interesting. 2 women, 3 girls, 3 boys. And many pets. The chaos is perfect. I already love this story now. Is hers tensely get “Brady Family” like the Bette and Tina under a hat. Please shoot the next chapters.

    6. Here’s the story… of a lovely lady… who was bringing up three very lovely girls… Here’s the story, of lovely Porter, who was busy with three boys of her own… Heck yeah, bring on the Porter Bunch. (Porter Posse?)
