    Angelica & The Artist 2 – Chap 1

“You two look guilty, what have you done now?”

Carolyn and Lyndsay just looked at each other, then Carolyn asked “Lynds, how does she do that?”

Response….. “I don’t know, it must be a Mom thing.”

The two walked over and each gave Barb a big hug.

“I didn’t hear you drive up.  Were you trying to sneak in and give me a heart attack?”

Carolyn was the first to respond, “who us?”

“Yes you two.  When you show up together I know something is up.”

The three shared a good laugh about how many times over the years one or the other, and sometimes both had gotten themselves into trouble, but never wavered in their bond of friendship.  If one was in trouble, the other stood right there beside them.  Of course, in most cases they were equally quilty, so it was not all that unusual for the two to show up together on this day.

They sat and talked all afternoon before getting dinner started.  David would be home at 6:00PM and Lyndsay said that they would share the reason for their surprise visit at that time.  Throughout the afternoon, Barb had tried to get them to share the news with her, but Lyndsay continued to hold firm that they would wait until her Dad got home.

David pulled up to the house and was surprised to see Lyndsay’s car.  He was always thrilled whenever she came home for a visit, but this was an unplanned one and he was concerned that something was wrong.

Walking into the house, he heard the unmistakable laugh of his little girl.  Placing his brief case down, he made his way back to the kitchen where he found the three “chefs” embroiled in a discussion about how to make a certain dish.  It turned out that they were trying to make one of his specialties and they were trying to decide if he used lemon juice or not.

“Well, well, now what do we have here?”

Lyndsay turned to see her father standing there.  She quickly made her way over to give him a huge hug and a kiss.  “Hi Daddy.”

“Hey sweetheart, what are you doing here?  Did I forget you were coming?”

“No, this wasn’t a planned visit, but I came to talk to you and Mom about something important.”

“Must be something big if you had to bring reinforcements?”  David responded while smiling at Carolyn.  “Hello Carolyn, good to see you.”

“Hello Mr. MacKenzie.  It’s good to see you too sir.”

Barb interjected and stated that Lyndsay had something to discuss with them, but was insistent that it could wait until after dinner, so David excused himself to go change out of his business suit and into something more comfortable.

When he returned downstairs the four shared a lovely dinner and discussed a new design project that Lyndsay was working on for a client in Los Angeles.  She was in the process of renovating a home for Helena Peabody and the project so far was going well.

This was not the first time Lyndsay had worked with her, and since Helena had been so pleased with her original work for them with the Peabody Foundation offices in New York, that Helena had insisted that she do the design for her home renovation in LA.

She described the plans for the house, in detail including a recent shopping trip that she had taken with Helena in New York.  They had visited several galleries and shops looking for just the right combination of items for the new house.

David was beginning to think that his daughter was stalling.  He listened patiently as she described her time with Helena, but soon his curiosity got the better of him.  He knew his wife was sitting on pin and needles waiting to hear the news their daughter had come to share so finally he stated …..

“Lyndsay, you said there was something that you wanted to tell us.  So come on now, no more delays, what is it?  Is everything OK?”

Finally after delaying the discussion as long as she could, and taking a deep breath Lyndsay said “Mom, Daddy……I came to tell you about a decision I have made……..”

Okay, maybe some of my emails in the past weren’t really THAT patient, but still! LOL. Why must you have cliffhangers? Can we simply agree thata term of condition in your posting will be NO cliffies? 7. Tazgolf74, I am new to your writings but I went back to your stories and I am all caught up with them. I am normally a B&T reader and other then Ness’ “save me from myself”, I don’t read anything else. I started to read your latest story and I had to go and get acquainted with your prequels. I started with TRE, and I was hooked. I love writers who can make me cry, that means that I totally get engrossed in the storytelling. I am glad that you have returned, but I agree with my fellow readers that that cliffhanger was just DOWN RIGHT CRUEL. PPS
