Angels and Mortals: Chapter 5 – What’s Left of Me

Now I’m broken, and I’m fading.

I’m half the man I thought I would be …

    I’ve been dying inside,

    Little by little

Nowhere to go, but going outta my mind

Alice squeezed the shampoo bottle, hoping for a drop to come out. When she got nothing, she stepped out of the shower, opening the cabinet bellow the sink, and pulling out the first bottle she saw. She got into the shower, closing the curtain, and squeezed some of the substance in her palm. The liquid was blue. What the heck? What was this stuff? She had never used blue shampoo. She turned the bottle around. “Old Spice Hair and Body Wash”. It was Alex’s. She looked at the goo in her hand, starting to catch a whiff of the scent. She closed her eyes and inhaled the familiar scent, as tears mixed with the water. Alice was breaking down in the shower.

    And in this circle,

    Running from myself until,

You gave me a reason for standing still

Alex Laced up her sneakers, and turned on her MP3 player. Because she was so ripped up, inside, she’d gotten ripped on the outside. After the first month home, she told herself that every time she thought of Alice, she’d go for a run, or head to the gym. She then got up, threw on her hoodie, and ran out the door.

    You’re crawling underneath my skin

After throwing on a pair of jeans, a t-shirt and sticking some chop-sticks in her hair, Alice was out the door. She needed to get out of that house. So she’d be a bit early for work. The tears had finally stopped, now she was just left with the pain and emptiness. She felt alone, really alone. She hated being lonely. She rubbed her temples, as she stopped at the light.

Like a hunger, like a burning

Alex had been out for nearly 20 minutes now. Her entire body burned, but she kept running. She closed her eyes and ran, trying to throw all the memories from her mind. She tried to throw away her warmth, and comfort, and forget about melting into her arms, and the sensuality of each touch.
