Art of Love – Chpt 13
Previously
“No, no, Bette. Allow me. Why don’t you select a nice wine to go with our meal,” Mummy said, before turning to Barbara and taking her by the arm. “I’ll escort you to the table, Senator.”
They exited the room, Barbara following reluctantly, and I looked at Bette helplessly.
“You may have prepared Veal Piccata, but your mother’s having lamb,” Bette said, making her way to the wine chiller.
“What do you mean, Darling?” I asked.
“Didn’t you just see how she led the Senator off, like a sheep to the slaughter?”
Chapter 13
Bette returned to the kitchen from pouring the wine at the dinner table.
“Darling, I’m sorry to put you to work. Next time we do something like this I’ll ask Sandra to stay and serve for us. That way we can eat properly, in courses,” I apologized.
“I don’t mind helping, Sweetheart,” Bette smiled, picking up two salad bowls and kissing me on the cheek. “And we don’t need to have courses this evening. We just need to get all the food on the table, eat, and hasten the Senator out the front door. Back from whence she came.”
“Bette?” I said, as she turned to walk back to the dining room.
“Yes, Baby?” Bette said, stopping and facing me again.
“Something struck me as quite odd a bit earlier,” I said with concern.
“What’s that?” Bette asked.
“The Senator told Mummy, ‘I’ve heard you’re quite the character, Mrs. Peabody.’”
“Yes. So?” Bette replied.
“Well, it just seems odd that she knows about Mummy, and yet…”
“Helena,” Bette interrupted, laughing, “everyone knows your mother is a character. You said yourself that’s part of her charm.”
“Yes, but earlier when you were making drinks for us, I told her Mummy was coming to dinner tonight and she didn’t mention that she knew who she was or anything,” I said, finishing my thought.
“Hmm. Well, Sweetheart, a lot of people know of your mother because of her wealth, as well as her philanthropy. And they know of you for the same reasons. What was Barbara supposed to say, ‘Oh! Hey! Helena Peabody. By the way, I meant to ask you if your mother is the eccentric billionaire heiress, Peggy Peabody?’” Bette smiled. “And our address is in a pretty ritzy locale, in case you haven’t noticed, well-known for its expensive real estate. She probably put two and two together before she ever got here. Besides, I happen to know she likes to Google people.”

zheese, as always i am loving it. Looking forward to what comes next.
another great chapter girl, please continue soon you have me hooked here and impatiently waiting for Peggy’s attack on the Senator LOL
i totally adore your writing… i enjoyed reading “a thin line” as well as this story but never left a comment to thank you … PPS… greetings from germany
Love this, and even though I’m a true B&T lover, your coupling of Helena and Bette is wonderful. Go Peggy, Go.
Awesome, Peggy still rocks. And it looks like she’ll get her piece from the Senator (pardon the pun).
Interesting choice of words from the Senator, “I’d give anything in return for a piece.” A piece of what??? Art, Helena, Bette, both. Oh the beauty of the words. Excellent story Zhesse.
Peggy used to watch “The A-Team”? Man, Bette channels Bogart and Peggy channels Mr. T, who would have believed it? I take it Peggy’s a breast woman with all her talk of teats and udders. That or she really likes dairy. I still think Peggy and the Senator have some potential. After all, each has the potential to (indirectly) give what the other wants. And as you pointed out zheese, it’s a thin line.
a very entertaining dinner, love the entertainment!!!
OMG! I just love Peggy! ROTFLMAO!!!
OMG LMFAO….I can’t even type a comment because I’m laughing too hard. This was fantastic. Peggy is a trip – with 2 “pieces” of luggage. Oh, I am so looking forward to the next post.
LOL…LOL…LOL…Oh my goodness. I should have popped some popcorn cause this is quite the show. Keep posting. I bet Bette will try to get Peggy’s piece from Barbara in exchange for one of Helena’s. I hope Helena goes along with the plan.
Oh what a tease! I think Peggy and the senator will sleep with each other! Certainly seems like it! :D Loved your work, so glad that you’re able to come up with another original idea and make everything work so splendidly. Cool!
Hey Zheese, thanks for writing. I continue to enjoy every chapter.
You definitely have them simmering quite nicely. My money says they will boil over in the next act!!
Peggy is absolutely the Master! I bow down to her incredible wit! lol. Great update
Thanks for another great chapter zheese. So is Bette going to get that painting back for Peggy-sounds liek a fair trade to me, as long as Helena agrees to letting the senator have an original piece of her artwork. Can’t wait to read what happens next.
Great chapter, zheese. Thanks.
The way you portray Peggy is just amazing, you are indeed a great writer. Wish I met Peggy back in 1974 before she was a hasbian, I would have never let her go.
no words, just laughter……..post soon
I cant stop laughing – Peggy has the Senator in her sites and is not going to stop jabbing at her until she lands the fatal blow. Helena and Bette should just sit back and let Peggy handle her business!! PPS!!
