    Beautiful Tuscany Chapter 9/ Waiting

That’s been me, she thought to her self. Tina looked over at Bette, I’ve kept you at arms length B, she whispered. At a safe distance, because of fear. Fear can make you think and do crazy things. It has kept me from you. And now I’m afraid again, but this time of never being with you. It’s strange how life can change your perspective on things. How one tragedy can pull you apart and yet another one brings you close again. She couldn’t believe the next thought that entered her head, but, there it was. She realized that Bette’s cheating was bad, it was wrong, but it hadn’t killed her as she suspected it would long ago. In fact it had made her stronger. Had it been a lesson to prepare her for now? No, nothing could have ever prepared her for this and it wasn’t the same. However, she realized of the two she could take the cheating, but she could not bear Bette dying.

The clock on the wall ticked slower and slower. Tina read out loud to Bette, while she paced the floor looking at the annoying ticking clock. Time was standing still, hours felt like minutes. She felt herself slipping into darkness, letting it pull her in. Despair was trying to win. Tina wasn’t going to let it win. She knew there was life left in Bette and she pleaded for it to return. She thought back to the beginning of their life together. It was as Tina recalled the start of her life. Before she and Bette were together Tina only merely existed. While she sat there caressing her forehead she reminded Bette of their first time together. In hopes in might spark something inside. Hoping Bette could as Margaret had said, hear her.

“Bette, it’s after three and I can’t sleep. I’ve tried, but I just keep thinking of so many things. I can’t get my head to turn off. Just now I was thinking about us together. You remember that first night at your place. God I was so nervous, but you were so sure of yourself and so confident. It seems like a life time ago. Everything was so new to me, you and being with you.
