Becoming Dana Fairbanks Chapter 4
Chapter 4
“I think I’m going to throw-up,” the brunette confided after she read the name of the girl she would be playing in the tournament’s finals.
“Fairbanks is nervous about a match? I never thought I’d see the day,” Jamie replied looking at her friend. Her joking smile faded when she saw the how pale Dana had suddenly become. “Hey, are you okay? You look really freaked out.”
“I can’t do this.”
That caused the redhead’s mouth to drop. Never in their five years of friendship had she ever heard Fairbanks say she couldn’t do something when it came to tennis. The court is where her friend changed from klutzy, often confused Dana to ‘bring it on’ Fairbanks. The difference was so tangible sometimes, Jamie often wondered if two people inhabited her friend’s body.
But, ever since they had read the list of schools participating in this pre-season tournament, the brunette had been acting so strange. The brunette threw herself even more into training, if that was even possible. Anytime anyone would bring up the topic of the tournament, Dana would frown and become serious. Something was wrong and her friend wasn’t talking. That pissed Jamie off to no end.
“Damn-it Dana, what the hell is going on? This is not like you. I know you’ve been nervous about this tournament. Lord knows I would be if I had Coach Hall on my back like he’s been on yours for the past few months…”
“It’s not that,” Dana interrupted with a sigh.
“Then what is it? Please I can help,” Jamie said.
Coach Hall chose that moment to interrupt, saying, “Fairbanks. Fifteen minute warning, start stretching and warming up for your match.”
“Yes, sir,” Dana respond.
“This is all your’s Fairbanks. This girl is good and has a solid serve, but I know you can handle it. This is your’s to win or lose,” Coach Hall said as she started stretching out her arms. “Did you have a chance to play against her during camp?”
That question startled Dana. Looking into the older man’s eyes, she saw the same strange look her had been giving her every now and then since she resumed training in August. It made her wonder, what exactly he wasn’t telling her.

I felt bad for D but I think in the long run, it will make her a better athlete! Hey, no pain, no gain, right? She probably learned a lesson from this loss. I am positive that she will persevere ultimately. Still loving this story and am looking forward to your next post. Thank you.
Hey, really sorry I haven’t commented until now. This story is great! Poor Dana. :(
poor dana that coach hall can be a big ass if you ask me but I can’t wait to see what will happen next please post soon
*looks like some people are up before me* ohhh what an a-hole, stupid coach! That girl i wonder…could it be…nah! Anyway anionayo another great post, i just feel so helpless because it’s like Dana is screaming and I cant help! Doing a very good job with the descriptions because my lungs were burning as i was reading the running part, i was shaking at the match-Excellent, cant wait to see what’s next.
OMG girl, you’re updating so fast, not that I’m complaining or anything… I wish I could give Dana a hug and tell her that everything is gonna be fine… I wonder what would have happened if that jackass coach hadn’t interrupted them. Was Dana about to tell Jamie what’s going on? Anyway, I don’t think that she can keep it a secret from Jamie for too long. Please, don’t make Dana suffer too much, OK? Your writing is great! Looking forward to the next chapter!!!
Oh oh…I forgot…it isn’t very nice of you teasing us like that about Danish, lol…
Amazing update, anionayo! Poor Dana! That had to be the worst day of her young life. My heart broke a bit along with her’s at the reaction of her opponent. The coach is a big jerk and possibly a sadist. These are still high school students — not professional athletes. Sorry. Pet peeve of mine. Being a teenager is tough enough without having this additional pressure. You are certainly stirring up the emotions here. I hope Dana gets a break here soon. Thanks so much!! Great story!!
AWWWWWWWW….. my tears to Dana…. So coach insinuated that she be a straight gal? What a bummer…
