Bike Ride, Life Ride – Chapter 22

Tina got up out of bed and took a quick shower and got dressed to prepare for the social workers arrival. Tina also helped Bette get up and get dressed. They had pretty good timing, because they were just finishing up getting ready when the social worker came and identified herself.

The social worker asked if Bette would be more comfortable back in bed, at the window seat bed or at the table. Bette pointed toward the table and nodded. There were two chairs at the table and the social worker pulled out a seat for Bette, patted it for Bette to sit down there and then took a seat in the other available seat. Tina helped Bette into her seat and then stood there.

The social worker said “Will Tina be joining us Bette or would you feel more comfortable if she left?”

Bette lowered her eyes before she spoke and said “I would like to speak to you privately if that is ok”.

Bette shifted uncomfortably in her chair, but did not make eye contact with Tina. Tina looked defeated and hurt and kept her gaze on Bette.

The social worker looked at Tina and said “Tina, would you mind if Bette and I spoke together privately for this session?”

Tina’s voice was choked with tears and she said “No, of course not. I will be right outside”.

Bette made eye contact with Tina for the first time and had a pleading look about her. Tina winced back tears that were threatening to spill from her eyes. She hated that this incident with Jodie as divisive. She hated that Bette was now shutting her out of pieces of her life and felt like she could not share this with Tina. Most of all, she hated that the fact that she pushed Bette regarding the situation could also be the reason that Bette did not feel as if she could share this with her.

Tina turned around and walked out the door. She found a seat outside of the hospital room and truly felt like an outsider. She thought long and hard about what had transpired with Jodie and decided at that moment that she was going to suspend her own feelings for now and try to concentrate on letting Bette work through her feelings about the incident on her own timeline.

    1. I guess pay back is no Bette thing, but if some one had did that to Tina,Bette would be in jail for murder, In my mind eyes Tina will get Jodie, and it want be a nice way. Then when Kit learns about it it will be worse. Anyway you look at it Jodie will get her just dues, Tina,Kit orthe gang. Love that Bette did take the first step tho.

    2. Poor Bette she is so fragile. It’s good that Tina got a chance to talk to the social worker now she knows that it’s not that Bette doesn’t want to talk about it she just needs to get over it in her own time. Tina also needs to show Bette as much love and affection as she can so she knows that Tina is not turned off by what happened to her. PPS

    3. Glad that Bette decided to talk to a professional. Tina is trying hard but maybe a little too hard with the jodi thing, but I can also understand Tina wanting to protect Bette.

    4. Geez that was heavy. Did Bette give the social worker permission to disclose all of that stuff to Tina? In what chapter did u disclose about this sexual assault? I seem to have missed something. Thx, a heavy subject to write about.

    5. Good that Bette talked about it to someone. Also I understand why she wanted it to be just between her and the social worker. Sometimes it’s easier to confide into a stranger than into our beloved ones but in the right time she’ll open up to Tina too. Thanks for posting!
