Bike Ride, LIfe Ride – Chapter 30

Tina ran for the trash can, which was the closest thing she could find and Bette vomited again and again into it.  Tina was starting to get tense in her stomach not understanding where this sudden sickness was coming from, but didn’t want voice a worry to Bette.  When it appeared that Bette had emptied out her stomach she looked over to Tina miserably.

    Bette said “ I am sorry T. I made a huge mess”.

Tina said “Don’t worry about that Bette. I will have housekeeping come and change the sheets. Let’s move you over to the couch. Do you want to brush your teeth or use some mouthwash first?”

Bette nodded and so Tina brought her to the bathroom and helped hold her up. Bette’s body felt weak and frail. When she was finished cleaning up, Tina took off her t-shirt and gave her a new, fresh one and moved Bette to the couch. She put down pillows and covered her with a throw blanket.

Tina said “Bette? What is wrong honey?”

Bette said “T, I don’t know, but I just want to sleep. I feel so tired”.

Tina was worried enough that she called over to have Dr. Miller paged at the hospital. When Dr. Miller called back, Tina explained the situation to him. He didn’t seem too worried or surprised that Bette had gotten sick. He assured Tina that she should not worry, because pain medication can a patient nauseous.  He instructed Tina to give Bette some ginger ale and try to get her to stomach some easy things like apple sauce and chicken soup and to try not to worry. Tina hung up and was thankful for the doctor’s kind words, but this just didn’t sit right with her. Something  just felt very wrong. When you are connected to someone’s energy like she was with Bette, you can’t explain why you feel unsettled, but she did.

Tina ordered housekeeping to come and clean up the bed and take care of that mess. She helped as best she could and then she ordered room service to get some dinner for Bette. She woke Bette up long enough to have her put down some ginger ale and soup to settle her stomach and then brought her to bed. Once they were in bed Tina just stared at Bette.

    Bette finally said “What?”

Tina said “ I am just really worried about you Bette. I am scared”.

Bette said “Babe don’t be scared. I am on a lot of medications and I got sick, I am feeling much better and I bet when I wake up tomorrow morning I will feel even better! Please try not to worry”.

    Tina said “OK”.

Bette said “Babe, seriously, try not to worry. I love you so much”.

Tina snuggled in close to Bette and soon enough back was back to sleep and breathing evenly.  Deep in the pit of her stomach, Tina just felt like something was wrong.
