Breathe– Chapter 6
Bette shook her head in disgust, They chase the thrill of the first kill for the rest of their lives, she said sadly as she reviewed the crime scenes.
The fact that he was committing his crimes in broad daylight told Bette he was arrogant and confidant, certain the police could not possibly possess the skills and intelligence needed to catch a man such as him.
Routine escalation was expected Bette thought, but the violence and anger depicted in the Marcey Fleming murder went far beyond routine. What set you off? Bette asked out loud as if the walls could provide her answers.
Finally, she let her mind turn to the deliberate act of callously stuffing a ruined photo of Tina Kennard in the victims mouth. Was it stripping the last ounce of dignity from the victim as he symbolically destroyed those she loved? Was it meant to shock those he knew would process the body?
Serial killers obsess about the details of their art. Therefore, in their warped reality they feel a relationship or connection with the CSIs and detectives who process every detail of their work.
In the same way that a great artist ponders every brush stroke, serial killers obsess over the nuances, the hidden meanings, the symbolic gestures of their crimes.
The serial killer experiences almost a heady rush as they read about their labor of love in the media and know that teams of people are pouring over their canvas, distilling meaning from their actions and honoring their work.
Sick *****, Bette hissed as anger flushed her cheeks. She felt as if she were almost colluding with Marcey Flemings killer as she stood in her home, letting his obsession, his sickness, his need to destroy wash over her.
This is what he wanted, she thought. He wants the pain to live on in those he let live. Because, in his mind he gets to decide who lives and who dies. Bette furrowed her brow at this last thought He chooses who lives or dies, she muttered quietly.

Terrific chapter. So Tina was meant to be the victim??????????? If that’s the case then Tina is going to have to deal with the extra burden of guilt of Marceys death being “her fault”. Oh my.
so she was druged, hmm does this mean she knows the killer??
still have that the killer knows where she is in mind, is that true or not??
So you liked my jenny joke??
and other chapter tonight would be really good but I won’t be home to read it so that kinda sucks. Don’t worry I will be thinking about it. As always this was a awesome chapter, can’t wait to see where this is going.
oh is eric going to be in here somewhere.
and maybe you could do a litte about what the killer might be thinking, that would be cool.
wow, sure didn’t expect another one today. i swear i’m in heaven. thanks for the shout out before. if i’m a lurker am i active. drugged huh. i’m not sure if i agree with weaver about tina being the victim. maybe it was gonna be a double murder or he has a fixation on tina and the others are the ones he kills. yes you coulda used betty and the sisters as the first victims, that woulda worked for me. keep it coming. dayum girl.
great chapter, i hope the killer is not gonna go after tina. but if he does then i hope bette will be there to kicks his ass! please keep up the good work
I’m a big fan of your magnificent story. The first thing I do when I get up in the morning and the last before I go sleep is checking for your new post :D.
Drugging someone means that you have to know them on a personal level…especially if you are doing it in their own home. The killers intent was not to drug Tina but her roommate…right? So..it has to be someone that knows the victims and their routine at home. What to put the drug in, how to insure that it will be ingested at the appropriate time. God, I love a mystery. Are all the victims lesbian? Are any of them? Do any of them look like Bette? Maybe his/her ultimate goal is is to kill Bette. Is the killer toying with her until it is time to do her in? Please post again soon…format be damned!
This is great. I’m not really into CSI and those other series, but you know when it comes to B/T, you’ve got my attention. I am really enjoying following along Bette’s train of thought, as she processes the evidence. Can’t wait for more!
thoroughly enjoying your story — can I suggest that you contact support@l-word.com to help you with your formatting difficulties — they are really very helpful
re: html paragraph code… hold down your shift-key, and press these 3 keys: ,p.
and you’ll see the sharp parentheses, also known as greater-than, less-than.
I have to say I think this story is excellent. It really captures all of my attention. I look forward to new chapters!!
Fabulous chapter . how do you know how to write all of these CSI details . so thorough … on the other hand, Bette is crossing the fine line of ethics here but i still love the twists and turns of this story . Pls keep writing!
What a WONDERFUL STORY..Maybe Tina is the one the killer wants, and he is going thru all of Tina’s lovers to get her????Please at leaset one more PLEASE……THANKS.
Dude! very cool stuff Sox!! hmm so Tina has been drugged eh, super Bette to the rescue me thinks, James totally fits the role perfect, maybe miss Shane could be the sexy ol’ Doc eh! Thanks
Yay you fixed the formatting :-)
I think Bette’s playing with fire. If they start something up they won’t know if the feelings are real or it’s just because of the situation they’re in. Also Tina being drugged will be clouding her judgement. Bette needs to stop and not take advantage of Tina.
I’d like to know too if all the victims are lesbians…
Maybe he was going after Tina, but something went awry in his plan and what set him off is that he didn’t get to kill the right person…
Anyway, you lead the game, you’re doing a great job on your own, so keep it up!! I like the idea of my favorite couple being dragged in a whodunnit story. I’m completely hooked up by this right now :)
xxx

forgot to ask you..are you from around the emerald city?
So Tina was the intended victum, he drugs them then kills them…Marcy walked in on it and that’s why she was so violent with everything??? ooohhhh don’t leave us too long pls
>- high 5 –< Sox! Nice formatting!
…and nice, really nice story :-)
I can’t wait for your next chapter so i am off to look for it. Thanks for your story.
it’s a good thing bette’s the stud detective or she would so be getting fired! i love fiction. ;)
Wow I’m addicted to your story this is so wonderful and what a smart and strong Bette. I can’t wait for the next installment Thanks
I can read your story all the day. Please post soon. Thank you
sox – you are rocking – this story is so well written. I love how you are turning Bette’s intensity into this very different profession. Keep on writing it is superb. And of course I’ll keep looking for you on TWOP.
So the killer would be “arrogant and confidant” ? No doubt… that’s Helena ! (lol)
Seriously… Serial killers and artists’ comparison : what a clever winked link to our Bette’s famous artistic passion !
You know, I’m truly amazed by your impressive professional knowledge about police procedure. All these acurate details bring so much reality in your thrilling story, it’s so living.
And really engaging too : I love very much the way you depict Bette here and her sweet relationship with her fragile protegée.
Endly, the mistery is engrossing ! Cannot wait for the next chapters…
Great, great work. Bravo – and thank you !!
damn..such powerful writtin …..great updates ….please continue with them
Sox,
Another twist: drugged victims, easy kills, this is a really sick pyscho.
Breathtakingly written chapter. The way in which you have Bette come to this ephinany is wondrous. A real sense of panic has been crafted as we all realise the truth that Tina was the one the killer was after.
Poor Marcey, wring place and wrong time.
It least I can now breathe until the next chapter.
Thanks
You Loyal Fan.
I wanted to say ‘maybe it is to soon and she does not yet realise …’
Sorry if my English is bad but it is not my mother tongue, be indulgent … :-)

Hi Sox1,
This is a great story … you are only the second writter to whom I would give an award so you can see how I am a difficult person :-))
There is just one thing that is not easy for me … B&T do not know each other and even if I can understand that they are already very close I am wondering how Bette is taking it so ‘easy’ ?
I mean she should be afraid by her feelings with regards to a witness … many it is too soon and she do not yet realise that they kissed and that she is probably falling for her ?
keep going .. honnestly it is great !

terrific chapter.
Did the killer mean to kill tina and not marcy? help me out here
Wow, great stuff. so do you have a background in Police work or do you just do a lot of research? Sounds like you know your stuff. You should send this to NYPD blue. Great story. So one last question, Boston or Chicago Sox?
Ohhh man, Tina was soo meant to be the victim! This story is great, PLEASE POST again soon! Really, this has become my summer reading! hahah!
I’m hooked this is a fantastic story.
Thank you.
Seriously the way you write is so… Dude I don’t really have the words. You just so rock. I love the mystery you’re building, I love the pace. And your choice of words. Okay I am gushing I’ll stop now. LOL
This is so good and Bette gonna take care of Tina!
