Centre of my Universe, Part 22

    Chapter 22

April’s blue eyes catched Shane’s. She felt an attraction to this hurt soul, only because she knew the feelings herself.

She smiled at Shane thinly. “Maybe I should start telling you something about my life. Then we’ll see who runs first.”

Shane shook her head. “No, April, I’m okay now. Thank you for not leaving.” She grasped April’s hand. “Let’s change the scenery and get things out.”

Both got up and never letting go of Shane’s hand they went into the living room again.

There they sat on the sofa and started talking. Shane told her a whole lot of her life up to date and then it was April Sullivan’s turn.

After she’d absorbed the information she got, she looked slightly uncomfortable and Shane picked up with no problem.

“You don’t have to tell me, April…”

“Oh yes, my lovely Shane, I have to. You just bared your soul to a virtual stranger and now it’s my turn to tell my tale.”

She took a huge breath and began. “I told you, that I moved here some months ago from Florida. Truth is, I ran away from my old life there. My ex was having an affair with one of our mutual friends and everyone except me knew about it. No one seemed to feel the need to tell me and I was hurt beyond words. Not of the cheating, I suspected something, but by the lack of support by my so called friends.”

She stopped for a moment to collect herself. “You see, I was committed to our relationship but before we were together I was a womanizer myself.”

Her tone was even, but the hurt showed clearly on her face. Shane had listened intently and could feel something deep inside herself. She made a motion with her hand to get April going.

“So I know about pain, because I inflicted it, mostly unvoluntarily onto others, but also to myself.”

The resemblance with both life stories was scary and that‘s what Shane told her. April just nodded.

“And where do we go from here, April ?” Shane asked timidly.

“Where do you want to go, Shane ?” April contered. “Because I don’t want or need a meaningless affair or a one night stand !”

    1. I don’t know where you find the time to write, but I for one am glad you do. Great story and I can’t wait for your next post. And no you do not suck at NC17. I find them to be perfect.

    2. Sky..what goes on in the kitchen should stay in the kitchen babe!!! When I see you in that apron, oh my…um, the story! Yes, thanx Kijuma, loving it! Sky, you don’t have to wait til next story, did you forget your Valentine’s Day gift???

    3. This is just great. I was almost laughing out loud when I read: “when honesty has to be stretched a little… for example birthday presents”. This is so Bette. I can imagine very well speaking those words. Thanks.

    4. Kijuma I thought baking was a type of foreplay for everyone…at least that was what Susannah told me as she had her way with me over some freshly baked biscuits…lol. She said “come on Sky everybody’s doing it.” Thanks for posting Kijuma and I will look for a puppy on your next story.
