Chapter 18 – Saturday with the Family

The next morning Tina and Bette woke up about 7:30. Both commented that it felt like they had over slept since they had almost an additional two hours of sleep than their usual routine.  Tina returned to her room to shower and dress for the day. Bette stripped the bed and remade it with fresh sheets. She then showered and dressed for her day.

Tina started the coffee and then started on the laundry. Once Bette came down, they both had a cup of coffee and a piece of toast to tide them over until Angie got up. Then they would prepare breakfast.  Bette then went to do the yard maintenance she had planned the night before. She checked the grill to make sure that it was clean and had plenty of gas for tonight’s meal.

Tina made a grocery list for the upcoming week’s meals. She wanted a week in which they had meals at home and not in restaurants since she and Bette would be going to Vancouver the following weekend. They needed makings for tonight’s dinner as well as the groceries for the week.

The laundry was more than usual as they all had a weeks’ worth of clothes to do. However, there was only a couple of days’ worth of towels and only Bette’s sheets at the moment.

Tina got on her lap top to research what she needed to get her driver’s license. Once that was done, she started on her letter of resignation from Showtime.  Bette finished her outdoor chores and came in and was somewhat sweaty. She then went back upstairs and took another quick shower and brought her dirty clothes to the laundry room.

Bette:  Tina, I think we need to prepare some breakfast. I’m hungry and I know you are too.

Tina: Yes, I am. Okay. I will start breakfast. How about some eggs, bacon, hash browns and English muffins?  If Angie isn’t up, I put it in the oven. Do you want to wash three potatoes, while I start the bacon? Have we got plenty of coffee?

Bette:  We have a half a pot left. I can make more if you like.

Tina:  I think that’s enough. We need to go to the grocery store. We are low on food. And I plan to cook every day next week. I’ve already made a list. We can go right after we eat if you like.

    1. Good insight about Tina and her parents. I do think the past relationship between Tina and her mother can be what Tina triggers to run away every time she feels unhappy in her relationship with Bette, run away rather than talk about what makes her unhappy.. She was controlling Tina when she and her husband divorced after he cheated on on her.

      Good chapter, thank you.

    2. Bibi….

You are sharp and see things that many do not. There is a reason for me putting in some of Tina’s backstory. And the one thing I would like to assure you is that there is no childhood molestation in my story. But there is more to Tina’s life as a child in the next few chapters. There will be a couple of incidents where Tina will make some false assumptions, but they will be quickly resolved. I just hope that in the end, you see this as a reasonable story, perhaps not one you would envision but one which is satisfying as to the whys Gen Q left us with.

Thanks for reading and for commenting.

    3. Hi Martha,

I can see this chapter is the tip of the iceberg and that once we look deeper into Tina’s life at home with her parents and sibling, things will be uncovered that she has buried, for whatever reason.

I’m sure both Tina and Bette’s, history with their parents have resulted in them both having unforeseen events and happenings, that have caused them triggers and consequences in their adult life.

It will be interesting to see what comes of Tina’s take with Judith. If Tina will be able to pin point her ‘cut and run’, attitude to something that happened to her unconsciously in her past/childhood.

      Great chapter, thanks!

    4. There will be some of that in this story. I hope that you will see the connection between Tina’s backstory and the reason she left Bette and Angie. It is also the reason that Tina and Bette are able to progress so quickly back a possible reunion.

Thank you for your continued support and commenting.
