Chapter 18 – Saturday with the Family

Tina:  Yes, it has a very good story.  I hope you like it. But if you don’t, remember, we didn’t choose it.

Angie:  Well, I still want to see it. Looks interesting to me.

Tina:  Well, the movie was successful enough that a TV series sprang from it and ran for about five years or so. Not many movies evolve into a television series.

Angie:  Really? Wow!  That’s pretty good.

Tina:  Now do you want ice cream before or after the movie?

Angie:  After.  Come on, let’s go watch it.

Bette led the way and went to the closet to get out blankets to wrap up in. Even though it was springtime, the theatre room always seemed cooler than the rest of the house. There was a love seat which Bette and Tina sat on and then raised the footrest. They covered themselves with a blanket and snuggled into one another as Angie put on the movie. Angie then chose her seat and snuggled into her blanket.  With her remote control, skipped all the coming movie ads and went directly to the feature and started it. She then adjusted the volume for everyone’s comfort, and they sat back and enjoyed the movie. This was the first time Tina had been in this room, and she found it fascinating. It really gave a theater feel with the comforts of home.

A couple of hours later the film finished. Angie stopped the projector and put on the light to a low brightness.

Angie:  Wow…that movie was great. Makes you believe that a stargate really does exist. Maybe aliens really did visit the earth and leave some markers like the pyramids?

Tina:  Well, if there is one, its deep undercover in some government installation under guard, lock and key and only a handful of people know about it.

Angie:  Those aliens were scary! But wouldn’t it be amazing to travel to another galaxy by stargate. Think about going through and having no idea where you are going and if you can get back.

Bette:  I don’t think I would go into one of those gates. Too much unknown.

Tina:  I enjoyed that, Angie. Thank you for picking that one out.  I think we need to adjourn to the dining room for a little ice cream. How about you guys?

Bette:  Count me in. Maybe a little coffee with it? Decaffeinated maybe?

Tina:  I think we can arrange that.

The family went to the dining room and had a bowl of ice cream and coffee. They continued to talk about the movie and comment that it was still just as entertaining today as it was over two decades ago.  Angie said she wanted to take that movie and the movie Speed with her incase the weather was bad. These would be films that this group had never seen and would enjoy. She wanted to pick out a couple of more so that they would have plenty to fulfill their time should outdoor activities not be available.

They finished their dessert and cleaned up the kitchen and Angie decided she wanted to go to bed.  Bette and Tina were getting sleepy as well, so they went up with Angie. Bette then invited Tina to have a quick shower before they retired since they had dance rather vigorously earlier in the evening.  They did share a shower and limited their activities to admiring the other’s body and quickly retired to the bed to cuddle and sleep.

    1. Good insight about Tina and her parents. I do think the past relationship between Tina and her mother can be what Tina triggers to run away every time she feels unhappy in her relationship with Bette, run away rather than talk about what makes her unhappy.. She was controlling Tina when she and her husband divorced after he cheated on on her.

      Good chapter, thank you.

    2. Bibi….

You are sharp and see things that many do not. There is a reason for me putting in some of Tina’s backstory. And the one thing I would like to assure you is that there is no childhood molestation in my story. But there is more to Tina’s life as a child in the next few chapters. There will be a couple of incidents where Tina will make some false assumptions, but they will be quickly resolved. I just hope that in the end, you see this as a reasonable story, perhaps not one you would envision but one which is satisfying as to the whys Gen Q left us with.

Thanks for reading and for commenting.

    3. Hi Martha,

I can see this chapter is the tip of the iceberg and that once we look deeper into Tina’s life at home with her parents and sibling, things will be uncovered that she has buried, for whatever reason.

I’m sure both Tina and Bette’s, history with their parents have resulted in them both having unforeseen events and happenings, that have caused them triggers and consequences in their adult life.

It will be interesting to see what comes of Tina’s take with Judith. If Tina will be able to pin point her ‘cut and run’, attitude to something that happened to her unconsciously in her past/childhood.

      Great chapter, thanks!

    4. There will be some of that in this story. I hope that you will see the connection between Tina’s backstory and the reason she left Bette and Angie. It is also the reason that Tina and Bette are able to progress so quickly back a possible reunion.
