Chapter 18 – Saturday with the Family
Angie: Who gets the fourth burger?
Tina: You do, if you want it.
Bette: Come on girls let’s eat. Can I get anyone something to drink before I sit down?
Tina: I’ve gotten everyone another drink. Everything is on the table. Come on. I’m hungry.
They all sat down to their meal and chatted about how good food taste when you ate outdoors. Angie thought they were some of the best burgers she had ever eaten and loved the potato logs with ketchup.
They were laughing and having fun. Angie volunteered to do dishes again. Tina reminded her that there were not many since they had chosen to eat on paper plates. Bette would clean the grill so it would be ready for the next cook out and Tina would clear the table and store the leftovers so they would be available for future use. Angie suggested that they watch a movie when everything was cleaned up. Bette and Tina agreed. It had been only last weekend when they watch a movie, but it had been years since they watch a movie in their home.
Bette: Did you enjoy that movie we saw last week?
Angie: Yeah, I really did. I was scared most of the way through it.
Tina: You know, that means you forfeit your right to choose the movie, right?
Angie: Aw, mom! Yeah, I remember. Okay, what do you guys want to see?
Bette: Well, honey, since you are being such a good sport about this, we are going to let you choose.
Angie’s eyes light up like a Christmas tree. She ran into the theatre room and brought back an older science fiction movie called Stargate.
Bette: This is what you want to see? Stargate? May I ask why?
Angie: I’ve never seen it before and it’s a science fiction movie and it looked interesting.
Tina: Well, I think that’s the movie for the night then.
Angie: Why? What’s wrong with it?
Bette: Nothing dear. I enjoyed the movie. I’m just surprise you chose this movie that is what almost 25 years old. Now you know the special effects will not be as good as what they have in current movies don’t you?
Angie: Yeah, that’s to be expected. But I always like a good story. Does it have a good story?

Good insight about Tina and her parents. I do think the past relationship between Tina and her mother can be what Tina triggers to run away every time she feels unhappy in her relationship with Bette, run away rather than talk about what makes her unhappy.. She was controlling Tina when she and her husband divorced after he cheated on on her.
Good chapter, thank you.
Bibi….
You are sharp and see things that many do not. There is a reason for me putting in some of Tina’s backstory. And the one thing I would like to assure you is that there is no childhood molestation in my story. But there is more to Tina’s life as a child in the next few chapters. There will be a couple of incidents where Tina will make some false assumptions, but they will be quickly resolved. I just hope that in the end, you see this as a reasonable story, perhaps not one you would envision but one which is satisfying as to the whys Gen Q left us with.
Thanks for reading and for commenting.
Hi Martha,
I can see this chapter is the tip of the iceberg and that once we look deeper into Tina’s life at home with her parents and sibling, things will be uncovered that she has buried, for whatever reason.
I’m sure both Tina and Bette’s, history with their parents have resulted in them both having unforeseen events and happenings, that have caused them triggers and consequences in their adult life.
It will be interesting to see what comes of Tina’s take with Judith. If Tina will be able to pin point her ‘cut and run’, attitude to something that happened to her unconsciously in her past/childhood.
Great chapter, thanks!
There will be some of that in this story. I hope that you will see the connection between Tina’s backstory and the reason she left Bette and Angie. It is also the reason that Tina and Bette are able to progress so quickly back a possible reunion.
