The dial tone ringing louder than anything else, it’s all I can hear. I see her eyes, and I have no idea what’s going on.

“Hey Carm, hi Sydney.” Alice’s voice cutting into the thick of my head. “Did you read this yet?”

The sheer shine from the paper, an old picture of me and the one of Shane, god I can’t believe she did it.

“Is that the interview? No I haven’t seen it yet.” Syd grab’s it out of her hand and my chest is tight, each breath barely reaching my lungs, her silence cutting deep into my heart.

Fuck me, she going to hate me, I know Jess and this isn’t about Shane. I fucking hate her.

“Oh shit…McCutcheon is going to kill someone and it’s most likely going to be me.” Syd’s voice distant and I can only think of her, everything about her flashing through my head.

Her astounding eyes, her smile, her hands gliding over my body, the feathery kisses burning a path along my neck, her body held close next to mine in bed things that may never happen again. That cold stare that stops my heart from beating and turns my blood cold that stare that takes a piece of me with each glance. The dull ache growing through my body, the feeling of fear gripping my heart, my lungs and I don’t what to do.

“Hey baby girl, ohh it’s so good to see you. How you doing?” Kit’s squeal of delight ringing high and I can feel her eyes baring deep into my soul.

“I’m ok, can I get a coffee…to go.” her face made of stone, carved into a serene calm but her eyes, so cold.

“Shane, hey how’s it going?” Syd walking over pulling her into a quick hug, her eyes never leaving mine.

“It’s okay…look Syd I’m not mad at you, I’m pissed at Chase and Sam but not you.” I am lost in her eye’s, I can’t read them, her eyes are empty and I can’t breathe. “I have something to tell you…oh thanks.”

She turns away, taking her cup of coffee her lean fingers brushing over the cashier’s hand, a flash of jealousy running through me.
