“Well ok then, I’m just going to go get ready for Shane’s thing.” the door closing with a loud thud, her eyes so distant and cold are blazing through my mind.
Feeling drained of all energy, of all emotion and all I can think of is her eyes. How they look like blue green ice when she’s made, how they glow with a brilliant emerald fire when she kisses me, when she smiles. Just the thought that I can lose that again is making me want to cry, I’m not going to let her go. Sitting up, running my fingers through my hair my hand stopping on my neck I swear I can hear faint whispers of past conversations that we had in this room. ‘Where are you going?’… ‘I don’t do sleep over.’ … ‘I love you.” … ‘ And what if I win?’
Walking to my bag, sifting through the clothes trying to find something to wear, something that will make her stare. Holding the soft material in my hand, the towel strung over my shoulder and I leave the whispering behind. The steam from the water filling the room, warming my skin as it runs over me, the gentle needing of the water against my muscles.
My hair wrapped in a towel, the water in my hand from wiping off the mirror creating a small reflective circle. The commotion from the street muffled by the walls that separate us, the sound of Jenny’s footsteps walking down the hall. The cream blending with my skin, the black lines around my eyes, the hot humid air from the hair dryer. The sound of Alice’s coop pulling into the drive way, the last minute rush to get there. The banging of the gate the sounds of there voices the clinking of glasses and plates, the splash of water and the sight of Shane walking around the pool smiling. Angelica shouting for her attention, Shane pointing to her saying something to Bette that made her laugh.
“Hey Carm can you help me out please?” Tina calling from the porch her hands full with two large plates covered in food.
“Yeah.” The plate heavy, “so where do you want it?”
Her eyes following me, the feel of her hand brushing against my side. The heat coming from her, making my hand shake, my breath catching my heart racing. Turning to her, her hands shoved into her pockets, her eyes hidden behind loose strands of hair. Breathing her in, the rise and fall of her chest, the letters on her shirt faded. She stares at her feet, she bites her bottom lip. Her fingers reaching over, just touching my hand and my nerves are on fire from it. We are alone, lost in each others eyes; I swear I can see paradise.
