    Closure – Chapter 3

Bette, Tina and Shane were sitting at their normal table when they saw Alice come in.  To say they were shocked would be an understatement.  Three months can be a long time and Alice looked quite a bit different.  Her hair was longer and darker than when they last saw her – almost black.  She looked thinner and more serious than the old pre-breakup Alice.  The biggest change was in her attire.  She wore a conservative outfit with a long-sleeve button-down shirt and tailored pants.

Alice walked quickly and directly up to the counter and placed her order.  She intentionally avoided looking around.  She would not have even come in, but, she needed to get some caffeine very quickly and this was the closest place.  Hopefully she would be able to continue to avoid it in the future.

Shane was the one to notice that Alice had no intention of acknowledging the group – much less stop to visit.  That so wasn’t going to fly with her.  She got up from the table just as Tina and Bette were about to get up. “I got it.”  Shane said with a small grin.

Shane wove her way through the tables and was halfway to Alice just as she was paying for her order.

    “Alice!”

Alice tried to pretend she didn’t hear and gathered her things as quickly as possible.

“Alice, please, hold up a minute.”  Shane begged as she finally reached the writer.  Alice looked up and tried to put on the old Alice Pieszecki smile.  She hoped that it looked normal.  The smile did not reach her eyes.

“Hey, Shane!”  Alice gave her a perfunctory hug. “I would love to stay, but, I really have to get going.  Someone is waiting for me.”  Alice gestured towards the door.

Shane put her hand on her arm to get her to stop and turn around.  “Please.  Just come over and say ‘Hi’.  Just a few minutes.  Please?  We miss you.”

It hurt Shane to see the look that came across Alice’s face at that point.  It was surprise.  She was actually surprised that her friends missed her.  How could they have let things get this far?

Alice recovered quickly.  “How about I give you a call in a couple days?”  She looked down and once again and tried to make her way to the door.

    1. am I first? oh yay! I love this. This is so good. It’s sad that Alice may have changed but the group did a mistake by not being there with her when she needed them. I’m sure Dana wouldn’t be too happy with Jackie too but this makes a really good story, it’s new, I like it. Cold woman by Alice’s side and Dana acting Shane-ish. Keep up the good work. I can’t wait where this goes. PPS:D

    2. wat happened to alice:( she seems pushovery :S..i dont like this jackie character one bit although its gunna be very interesting wen she and dana meet lol great writing!!!

    3. “Piercing blue eyes that did not have a hint of warmth” did not sound good to me already. Jackie seemed to me a control freak but maybe A needed to be taken care of after the heartbreak. I agree with the comments above, this was not the A that we have grown to know and love. I hope somehow she would go back to her old self as being confident, outspoken and fun. I think down the road, B could give Jackie a piece of her mind. It would be an interesting scene. And the rest of the gang could join in for the intervention. Last but not least, let D see what A had become. Not to use the guilt trip tactic, but ultimately, I hope D would realize that it could only her to bring A back. Excellant MaGoose, I really enjoy this update.

    4. Ok, who is this woman and what has she done with Alice? I don’t like Jackie. I don’t like that Alice is being controlled by her. I can’t wait for my sweet Dana to find out about this. She won’t like it one bit. Can’t wait to see how the little get together turns out. Please post soon. This a great story.
