“I have a business to run, sis ,so I have to be up early.”
“How’s your man?” Bette stared at her sister, despite the perfect makeup, she could see dark circles under her eyes and a edge of worry. “Are you okay?”.
“I’m fine Bette, and I didn’t call you here to talk about me.”
“So, what’s the big emergency?” -Bette asked, looking around the cafe. She searched through the crowd as if searching for something. Or someone. Then her eyes connected and locked. “I’ll be right back” She said and excused herself.
“Looking for someone” Her voice sounded behind Tina
Tina’s heart beat immediately doubled. “Just enjoying the coffee.”
“If you say so” Bette laughed.
The deep sound caused ripples of warmth to ooze through Tina’s veins.
“But I know I was looking for you.” Bette’s voice held a gentle heat, but it was her word choice that warmed Tina.
Tina liked this playful side of Bette and decided to play along with her. “Well you found me, I was just about to leave”
“Sounds good to me.” Bette gestured with her hand that Tina should go first. A few strides and they reached the parking lot where it was beginning to get crowed with cars. Tina continued to her car ,but Bette grabbed her hand , pulling her aside. “Spend the day with me?”
“Yes, I will” Then she hesitated for a while and said. “Where are we off to.?”
“Don’t ask, just follow.” She smiles at Tina and winks. Please don’t look at me with those eyes and that smile. Tina begged silently as she heads towards her car. She followed Bette for at least fifteen minutes and then she turned off the main road onto a side street and then into a driveway. She parked behind Bette’s car and got out.
“Wow!” Tina said astonished.
“What?”
“Do you live here alone?”
“Why?… planning on moving in?”
“No.” Tina answered as she followed Bette through the house and around back to the pool. “Just admiring the space and the beauty. The pool is lovely.”
“I would have preferred the beach .
Tina knew what Bette was trying to do. “Now who’s being presumptuous?” she asked.
Bette’s eyes opened wide and looked innocently at Tina. Laugh lines wrinkled around her eyes. “Something tells me not to touch that statement”
