    Destiny (2)

Helena stammered for a moment then turned her head away. Alice tried to stop the tears that rushed to her eyes, but she couldn’t stop them. Sobbing softly she said, "I love you Helena, don’t forget that."

Helena turned to face her but she had turned on her heel and walked away, lifting her arm up to hail a taxi. A taxi pulled up shortly. It was the taxi with the same Irish driver that had taken Helena to the concert. She rushed after Alice and stopped her from closing the door.

"Please don’t leave me Alice!" Helena begged.

Alice looked up at her with tears in her eyes and said, "goodbye Helena."

"Are you comin’ in or not madam?" The driver said.

Helena sighed as rain started to fall on her in heavy drops pushing their entire weight on her shoulders. "No," Helena said backing away.

Alice slammed the door shut and the taxi went off. Helena couldn’t stop the tears from spilling out of her eyes as her one true love drove away forever. The taxi stopped at a red signal and Helena looked down.

The rain had thoroughly soaked her, but she didn’t care. Her green eyes focused on the bouquet of dandelions that Alice had dropped in the gutter as she left. The beauty of the flowers had disappeared completely as now it looked muddy and ripped apart of it’s leaves and petals. That’s what had happened to her heart.

It was at that moment that Helena realized just how much she loved Alice. She lifted her head up towards the taxi which had just started to move since the light turned green. Helena started running after it calling out Alice’s name.

The last thing she saw was the blinking red clock on the headboard of the taxi that had changed to 11 o’clock, then the taxi was hit violently when another car ignored the red light.

Helena’s heart stopped for a second as she heard Alice’s scream of horror then the loud sound of glass breaking and metal bending.

"ALICE!!!" Helena screamed running towards the taxi as it flipped over several times on the road.

    "NO! ALICE!"

Bette walked down the hall towards the bedroom holding a cup of tea. She walked into the room and to her bed where Tina was sitting with her knees pulled to her chest and her head resting on them as she sobbed.

Bette sighed and handed her the tea. Tina took it quietly and took a sip. Bette solemnly looked over to the bed across the room where Helena was curled in the fetal position, her body wracking with heartwrenching sobs.

    "Helena," Bette said standing up.

"Alice," Helena whimpered, "I love you."

Bette sat back down with a sigh, "I can’t believe she’s gone."

Tina started sobbing again and leaned on Bette’s shoulder. The loss of her best friend was even worse than Tina ever thought possible. They had grown up together, side by side.

"Shh baby," Bette said caressing Tina’s face.

"Oh Bette," Tina said hugging her tightly, "there was nothing anyone could do for Alice. Destiny cannot be changed."
