E-lover: Yes I lost the bet!
(Tilts head to one side and takes a sip of coffee, thinking)
Shane: Haaaa, like I believe you.
-Silence-
Helena (tries to break the silence): I think my students are stupid. I gave them this calculus paper and the highest average score was only 60 percent!
Shane: That’s because you think everyone’s whole life is devoted to math. You give them advanced differential topology and expect them to finish it within a week! You’re insane!
Helena: That’s not true! It’s easy okay! I taught that to them in my last semester!
Shane: Then why didn’t you finish marking the papers for weeks? And don’t you think you can escape from my earlier statement.
-another very awkward silence, with Shane purposely looking to one side and hums.-
Helena: Alright, alright I give up! I admit, I’ve a tiny crush on her. She writes so well! If only she was real! I always imagined that she’s this creature in MIB, you know the cute little alien operating the HUGE robot?
Shane: Look, she’s real okay? You just haven’t met her in person! I’m going to tell her that you said she was a little alien!
(Helena reaches over and holds Shane’s neck menacingly)
Helena: No, no, don’t! Don’t betray me, I warn you! Or I’ll tell everyone about your crush on that.. certain… that certain… Carmen.
Shane (cooly): That’s fine with me, everyone knows anyways, and I’m over it now.
Helena (crosses arms smugly): Ok, I’ll spread rumours about you in love with that lesbian man Lisa who always calls you to tell you about his new gadget. I’ll tell Alice. I bet Lisa would be so honored that he won’t be able to stop boasting about it.
Shane: EEEWWWW! That’s nasty! Don’t do that! Telling Alice is like telling the world!
(Bette walks into the room)
Shane calls out: Hey! What’s up with work?
Bette (ranting) : I’ve to do the month-end closing this month, and it’s hell of a mess. You know my colleagues forgot to enter the figures for the freight and insurance into the system, and as a result I had to spend like 1 entire hour trying to figure out why the costs are 5 percent lower than usual this month. I don’t even have time to calculate my Cost Reduction figures for the Balanced Scorecard Report.. Then my boss was bugging me every 5 minutes give her my report. I worked till 3am last night AND THE NIGHT BEFORE! So frustrating! Do you know that the prices for raw materials of Hard Disk Drives are going up yet again? (Author’s note: Bette is an analyst. Not that I’ve anything against that. :P)
Shane: ???
Helena: I’ll stick to my stochastic finance. I think it’s easier.
Shane: Show off! You still owe me my beta calculations for the few newly listed companies on the NYSE. You’re like taking forever to give me that! I didn’t even ask you to calculate the cAPM and you’re already taking forever!
Helena: I’ll do it tomorrow? I woke up at 3 am this morning to see if she has replied, so I’m a little tired. And she didn’t reply AT ALL! NOTHING! ZERO! I’m upset.
Shane: And you said you didn’t have a crush on Persephone!
Bette (stunned): Persephone????? Whose Persephone? (turns to Helena and says shyly) Hey Helena? I didn’t see you here.
Shane (laughing): Helena’s Persephone, who didn’t reply for 2 days!
Bette (looking at Helena suspiciously): Did you meet Persephone at the L-word.com? She’s a Sagittarius? Adores Art? Studied Art History at Yale university? Loves Pinot Noir?
Helena: Huh, how did you know that? Are you…
Bette: GOD, Hebe, is that you?
Shane (hitting forehead): OH MY GOD, Miss Persephone is really a little alien in the large robot suit!
-the end-

hahaha that was quite enjoyable, despite not understanding half the terminology used in the story and maybe a couple of inside jokes :p The best part was reading about how you lost the bet, though :) (I love me some HeleBette, in case you decide to add another chapter)
Through out the heavy terminology and lets back track of the two cyber characters and see where it goes.
Hey Rebelzz! I like this quite a bit. Nerds are so cute. Bette being shy around Helena and Helena in crushing on Bette through cyberspace. This could be a funny little fic. I’d like to see where you take it. Would Helena and Bette continue to talk online even though they know who they each are? Then take it the next step and have an actually date? So many places to take it. And even though I don’t know the terminology it’s cool. Good stuff here.
Hmmmm… Helebette. I like it! However, I do have to agree with adumgenius and squirl… I would suggest that you use terminology that the average 8th grager can understand. (Working with medical devices, we are trained to use words that someone at an 8th grade reading level can understand when we write standard operating procedures and work instruction, etc.)
perfect! although i have to admit i would prefer that the girls were structuring deals rather than analysing. throw in a few warehouse lines and you’ve got it made. LOL. on a serious note, it was GREAT! and i’m not a nerd. i can’t add. or subtract.
AHA!!! so I’m not the ONLY one who cant subtract! (refer to ess-n-tee comment above!) Heeeheee! This was funny Rebz! and serves you right for making bets (Bettes?) with ‘certain people’! :D SO, methinks you better start working on the next chappier dearie, because you’re soo going to lose the bet yet again! Well done with this, btw, and on such notice too!
Oh God, I couldn’t hold in my laughter when Shane and Helena were talking about different girls’ boobs… I spit my tea out all over me! Lol.
This is so funny and love it!!!!!!
