Fa La La La La La La La La
“Three, not everyone is Christian. Four, not everyone appreciates the religious origins of carols. Five, in fact, some people hate being reminded of religion. Six, carols can be hard to sing. In fact…um, seven, carols don’t have catchy tunes. Eight, well. Um. And a whole lot of other things that I’m just not remembering right now.”
“But T..”
“You can’t ring sleigh bells while you sing carols.”
“Well, there is the ‘Carol of the Bells’.”
“Bette, this is the list. Add anything you think of. Anything secular. Bouncy.”
Tina had left the kitchen to finish getting ready for work.
“Secular and bouncy,” Bette muttered as she stared at the list. She was relieved to see “Jingle Bells” and “Santa Clause Is Coming to Town.” Her confidence grew with “Frosty the Snowman” and “Let It Snow.” A small grin had begun to form at “White Christmas,” “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” and “Sleigh Ride.” Uncertainly started to grip her with “Christmas Song,” “We Need a Little Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” and “Holly Jolly Christmas.” They were familiar. She was certain, or mostly certain. Her smile began to fade at “Little Saint Nick,” “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” “Jingle Bell Rock” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.” There were even more.
Bette began to panic. Bette Porter had mastered at least a hundred carols, from many centuries, but some of the songs on Tina’s list were unfamiliar and she certainly had never mastered any of them.
Bette began to control her breathing, as she did when meditating, in order to grab control of her rising fears.
She jumped when she heard Tina ask, “Remember, I’ve got that dinner, so you’re picking up Angelica today?” Tina noticed Bette’s odd look. “Hey, are you alright?”
“I was just startled. I’m getting Angie and we’ll have dinner at The Planet.”
“Not so much ice cream, this time, OK?”
“You call Kit, then.”
“She says that she’s spoiling Angie like a grandma would,” Tina laughed as she bent down to quickly kiss Bette.
“That was a bit skimpy,” Bette teased as Tina pulled away.
“Yeah? Skimpy?” Tina asked as she quickly pushed Bette’s chair away from the table and sat on Bette’s lap. Tina placed one hand behind Bette’s head to pull her closer and the other to direct Bette’s lips to her own. The second kiss was intense, at least for a morning on-my-way-to-work kiss. Tina pulled away and they smiled at one another.

That was just as amazing and beautiful like your other stories. I have so missed your talented writing on this site. Can this be a possible return to the forum. I have so missed the “the wolve” story- “Backstory”. I was hoping that this was a version of that, but I am just as happy with the one I got.
