FORCE of NATURE
Bette shook her head lightly, laughing to herself as she returned the black blouse to her closet and pulled out a similar red one. Turning to her highly opinioned daughter, she held out the blouse. “This one?” She asked to confirm.
“That one!” Madie said nodding her head in exaggerated approval.
“Okay…” Bette said placing the blouse on her bed next to her jeans. Bringing her hands to her hips, she smiled adoringly at her daughter before redirecting the little girl’s attention. “Why don’t you go make sure Aunt Alice isn’t burning down the kitchen in her attempt to heat up your dinner while I finish getting ready?”
Madie’s eyes grew big as the possibility of her aunt catching the kitchen on fire crossed her mind. She quickly jumped off the bed and recruited Pete as honorary fire marshal to go with her and investigate the potential for combustion in the kitchen.
Bette removed her robe and began the final phase of getting ready for her dinner date with Tina. She suddenly realized she wasn’t nervous about the evening. For all the stammering that had occurred the day before she was remarkably calm.
Kit’s quick prompt to accept the kids’ dinner invitation had been met with an equally quick and sincere acceptance by both her and Tina. However, neither knew where the kids came up with such an idea and both turned to Kit for answers as soon as Madie and Anthony were out of earshot.
“They just want to give you two a nice dinner… it’s as simple as that!” Kit had explained, choosing to omit the living in one house goal.
The shy exchange between the two mommies after Kit left them alone was not exemplary of two mature adults. “Are you sure you’re okay with this?” Bette had asked. “I mean… we don’t have to… you know… we don’t have to…if you’re not okay…” Before digging her verbal hole deeper, Tina had cut her off with her own tongue-tied babble. “No, no… I’m okay… are you okay?… because we can… I mean we don’t have to… unless you want to?… if you’re okay?”
Somehow, in all that they both came away “Okay.”

Oh good grief – you did NOT just leave it there?! You big tease – all that tension and no release…. PPPPPPS!
Too cute. Thanks for the post!
This is the sweetest story, thanks for writing it!! Can’t wait to see what happens next : )
Damn cliffies! Thanks for this story, you truly have a gift and I’m lovin’ it. PLUS, you post regularly which I love! Can’t wait to see what happens, and how dinner goes.
Hey, good luck fixing the lawn mower! I have a feeling their dinner is going to be more interesting than mine.
Such torture! I saw your post this morning and didn’t have time to read it until now, work and all. Now I am tortured again with the cliffie. Good luck with the lawn mower. PPS!!
So cute.Thank you for this amazing chapter.PPS
First things first, PLEASE DISCONNECT the battery from the lawnmower BEFORE you attempt to change the belt. Now to our lovely story. The level of nerves they both have is too funny. It shows how much they already care about each other and too afraid to admit it. I love this story and hope that it can go on for sometime. I want to see this attraction develop into courtship, marriage and family togetherness. Hopefully one day we will see how Anthony’s $3.42 will mature into a major dividend for him and all concerned. This is such a simple love story and so sweet. Simple, because the children do not see any problems with getting them together, yet so complicated, as we adults are prone to be. Carry on.
