    B&T Beginning – Chapter 2

    Christina Kennard was from a small town of Louisiana, she came to Spencerville to start a new life after her divorce 2 years ago. As a young girl, she’d always assumed she would have the kind of life she wanted marriage, children and a nice home. But it hadn’t worked out that way. She met her husband Jerry right after she was finishing up her teaching degree. Nine months later, Tina and Jerry were married.  Tina began teaching second grade at an elementary school.  In the first two years of their marriage, everything seemed perfect, they would spend hours in bed on the weekends, talking and making love. Who can explain what happened next? 3 years after their marriage Tina found out her husband left her for another woman.

    Bette has been doing her paperwork since morning. Once again she looks at the clock on the wall. It’s already past noon and soon she’ll have to pick up Angelica and meet with her teacher.

     

    “Something’s wrong Bette?”

     

    Michael Duffy, the county sheriff, looked across the table at his deputy.

     

    “No, what makes you say that” Bette answered quickly.

     

    “You keep on looking at the clock. It has been like, for the 20th time in the past few minutes.”

     

    Michael laughed. He was one of the few people in town who still treated her the same way he always had. They’d been friends for years; Michael had been the one who suggested that Bette become a deputy sheriff. He’d taken Bette under his wing as soon as Bette had finished her training. He was in his sixties and was a good friend of Bette’s father Melvin Porter. He died on the line of duty 40 years ago and since then Michael has treated Bette like her own daughter.

     

    “I have to go, I’m meeting Angelica’s teacher this afternoon” Bette raised from her chair.

     

    “I hope she’s not in trouble” Michael said

     

    “Me too.  I will see you later Michael” mumbled Bette as she walked out of the front door.

     

    Bette pulled into a parking space in front of the elementary school just as the classes were being dismissed. Bette saw Angelica at the same time as Angelica saw her; she waves happily and runs toward the car.

    3. So that means if Tina is tutoring Angel 4 days a week that she will have to meet with Bette about her progress and maybe Bette will have to pick her up from school. I like this one so much already. Thanks and keep it going searchlight!

    13. Like how you worked that in. Tina doesn’t usually offer but she going to tutor Angelica 4 days a week. Maybe she can do it at Bette’s house, and maybe once in a while fix dinner, you know so she’s still there when Bette gets home.
