    B&T Beginning – Chapter 2

     

    “Hey Angel, how was school?”

     

    “It was fine, how’s work going?”  Angelica hands Bette her backpack and climbs into the car.

     

    “It’s better now that I see you.”

     

    “Did you arrest anyone today, mommy?”

     

    Bette shook her head.  “Not today. Maybe tomorrow. Do you want to sit here or play on the playground while I talk to your teacher?”

     

    “I think I’ll stay here in the car if you don’t mind.”

     

    “All right then, don’t touch anything ok?”  Bette took one last glance in Angelica’s direction before walking into the office.

     

    As soon as she entered the classroom she was greeted by Tina. They met for the first time. She was attractive, her blond hair was cut clean just above the shoulders. She wore a long skirt and a blue blouse. She has wonderful brown eyes.

     

    “Hi, I’m Tina.” She held out her hand.

     

    Bette shook her hand “I’m Bette Porter, Angelica’s mother.”

     

    “Thanks for coming Ms. Porter, I’m glad you could make it today.”

     

    “It wasn’t a problem.” She nodded holding her gaze.

     

    For a moment, neither woman said anything as they stood close together. Tina quickly moved around her desk, looking as if she was ready to get down to business. She began shuffling her papers, scanning through her files searching for what she needed.

     

    “You must be wondering why I needed to talk to you.”

     

    “Yes, I’ve never been called to the teacher office before.” joked Bette.

     

    “I enjoy having Angelica in my class, she’s a good girl but she’s having a little trouble with her math.”

     

    “She said everything’s ok at school.” Frowned Bette.

     

    Tina went on.  “I know this is surprising to you. I wanted to talk to you about the best way to help Angelica.”

     

    “You mean like a tutor?”

     

    “Yes, getting a tutor is a good idea but it’s kind of expensive. It would probably be better if you could teach her.”

     

    “My schedule varies.  Sometimes I’m home at five, other times I don’t get home until Angelica’s already in bed.”

     

    “Who watches her after school?”     

     

    “Mrs. Robinson, our neighbor.  She’s great but she’s in her sixties.”      

                                                                                            

    “What about someone else? A grandparent or your husband?”

     

    Bette shook her head “I’m a lesbian and my wife died 7 years ago.”

     

    “Oh Bette, I’m so sorry I didn’t know.”

     

    “It’s ok” Bette whispered.      

     

    After a long thought Tina seemed to come to a decision.  “I don’t usually do this, but I’ll make you a deal if it’s ok with you.”                        

     

    Bette raised her eyebrows.  “What kind of a deal?”

     

    “I’ll work with Angelica after school 4 days a week.”

     

    “You’d do that?”  Bette couldn’t hide her surprised expression.

     

    “Not for every student, no.  But like I said Angelica’s a sweetheart.  I’d be glad to help.”

     

    “Thank you.”  She said “I can’t even begin to tell you how much I appreciate this.”

     

    “My pleasure.”  Tina said followed up with a big smile.

    1. Great Story. I already love this. I like B&T Beginning stories very much. And primarily I love Bette in a action figure as a cop. Post really soon the next part.

    3. So that means if Tina is tutoring Angel 4 days a week that she will have to meet with Bette about her progress and maybe Bette will have to pick her up from school. I like this one so much already. Thanks and keep it going searchlight!

    7. Hm..if Tina were my child’s teacher I’d teach my kid to be a complete brat so I could get called in more often after school..No I’m kidding, haha Awesome story! Keep going!

    13. Like how you worked that in. Tina doesn’t usually offer but she going to tutor Angelica 4 days a week. Maybe she can do it at Bette’s house, and maybe once in a while fix dinner, you know so she’s still there when Bette gets home.
