Chapter Six
Shane was glad she had decided to stay for dinner, as were
Bette and Tina. Having her there seemed
to make it easier to interact with each other.
Shane watched them as they comfortably moved about the kitchen much like
they had months before. The conversation
during dinner was easy; but finally Tina wanted to know how Shane knew about
the baby.
No matter how sad or angry you seemed there was always
something else, something I hadnt seen since the first time you were
pregnant.
Does anyone else know?
No one has said anything.
Do you still want to keep it a secret?
For now.
Tina looked at Bette.
Is that all right with you?
Its up to you, Ill go along with whatever you want.
Shane asked, Why dont you want anyone to know?
I guess I just dont want everyone to think the baby is the
only reason were trying to work things out.
Guys, it really doesnt matter what anyone thinks. This is between the two of you; you dont
need to explain anything to anyone. Just
do whats best for your family.
Youre right; its just that I dont feel like anything
that happened between us has been private.
Everything has been so out there.
During this exchange Bette had gotten up and started to
clear the table. She knew Tina had been
humiliated and it was her doing. Shane
gave Tina a look and nodded toward Bette.
Guys dinner was great but I really need to go.
Bette walked over to Shane and embraced her.
Thanks for all your help Shane, I really appreciate it.
Anytime, just let me know when you want to get started on
the other thing.
What are you two up to?
Bette will let you know.
Tina took Shane by the arm.
Why dont I walk you out?
They walked out onto the porch and stood silently for a few
moments before Shane spoke.
Are you going to be okay?
