Giving Up Or Giving In – Part 6

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

    Tina woke and at first was uncertain of her surroundings;
she glanced at the clock, 2:47.

I must have fallen asleep in Bettes room, where is
Bette?  She must be in the other
    bedroom.

Tina saw Bette on the sofa, walked over, and sat down beside
her.  She brushed Bettes hair away from
her face and thought of all the times she had watched her sleep.  She desperately wanted to lie next to Bette
and have her hold her, she always felt safe in Bettes arms.  She knew she loved Bette, she just wasnt
sure she could risk being hurt again.
She felt Bette begin to stir.

    Tina, are you all right?

I woke up and found you out here, why didnt you wake me or
at least go sleep in the other room.

    Thats your room now.

Well, you should go to bed; youll be more
    comfortable.  Good night.

Tina walked down the hall to her bedroom; Bette heard the
door close.  What she didnt hear was
    Tina crying herself to sleep.

    ~ ~ ~ ~

Tina woke first the next morning; she made a cup of tea and
went to sit by the pool.  She wanted to
tell Bette she had overheard her conversation with Shane, but she felt the
moment had passed.  She should have told
her as soon as Shane left and she sat down to talk with her.  She realized now that she had avoided the
conversation because she wanted to control it.
She wanted to be prepared for anything Bette might say.  In her own way she was just as controlling as
    Bette.

She thought about her conversation with Shane.  She had always wanted Bette to open up to her
more and now she was the one holding back.
Bette was trying and if she were honest with herself, she would admit
that Bette was the one being more open now.

Knowing that Bette did not intend to actively pursue her,
she wondered how that would change their sessions with the therapist.   She had never thought that Bettes solution
to her condition of them sharing the house would be to do nothing as far as
    their relationship was concerned.  She
wasnt quite sure how she felt about that.
She had tried so hard to be immune to Bette so she wouldnt go running
back to her, thinking she could hold Bette at bay until  until what?
Until she thought Bette had hurt as much as she had.  Is that what she was doing.  It sounded so ugly, so mean spirited.  Is this who she had become?
