    CHAPTER 20

     

     

    Bette sat on the corner of her bed watching Tina pack away the last of her things in a carry on.

     

    "I think that’s it. It’s not like I brought much of anything," Tina turned to face Bette and shrugged her shoulders.

     

    "I made some coffee while you were in the shower.  I thought you could use some."

     

    "Thanks."  Tina couldn’t bare the thought of walking out of the bedroom.

     

    "How long do we have before you leave for the airport?"

     

    "About an hour." Tina took a deep breath and shoved her hands in her pockets, "Time to sit and have some coffee with you." 

     

    Tina leaned back against the dresser and sighed, "Bette what are you thinking?"

     

    "If I told you what I was thinking we wouldn’t leave this room and you would miss your flight."  Bette opened her arms wide enough for Tina to step into.  When the blonde did, Bette placed her head on Tina’s stomached and held her tight, "We’ll make this work.  You said so, yourself.  It will be tough but if we both commit to this, we’ll make it work."

     

    "Is that how it works?  One minute I’m re-assuring you, the next you’re re-assuring me?"  Tina ran her fingers through the brunette’s hair.

     

    "That’s what couples do, I guess.  They take turns being strong for the other, the roles change when it’s needed."

     

    "So we’re a couple then?"  Tina pulled back far enough to make eye contact. She tried to wink but couldn’t quite do it – Bette thought it was positively adorable.

     

    "If we are not a couple, then I owe you a lot of money for what went on between us last night"

     

    "And this morning – you forgot this morning"

     

    "I couldn’t possibly forget about this morning."  Bette stood slowly and clung to Tina.

     

    "Don’t you dare kiss me Bette Porter or we will never get out of this room."

     

    Bette leaned forward as if to kiss the blonde and then pulled away teasingly.  Tina, who had already begun to lean forward into the expectant kiss, blushed furiously and slapped Bette on the arm.

     

    "You are fresh"
