    Homecoming * A Tibette Beginnning (Chapters 20 – 23)

"I am doing what you asked, Miss Kennard.  I’m going to go downstairs and cut up some fruit.  Meet you in the kitchen?"

"Yeah, I’ll be own in a sec."  Bette left a chaste kiss on Tina’s cheek before leaving he room.

Tina sat down on the corner of the bed and took a few deep breaths.  She didn’t want to leave. It was as easy and as complicated as that.  The thought of the pile of work awaiting her in LA made her nauseous – but it was the thought of being away from Bette, that left a burning hurt in her chest.  She quickly began to run down a list of what she had to do back in LA in hopes of convincing herself that she could stay another day, but it just wasn’t possible.  She had no choice but to leave, but she knew in her heart that she would be back.

Tina walked into the kitchen to see Bette smiling up at her from the kitchen table,

    "Everything all set?"

"Yeah.  My bag is packed and in the car."

"Sit.  Let’s eat.  You must be starving."

"I can’t imagine why."  Tina reached across the table and intertwined Bette’s fingers with her own.

    "What’s your week look like?"

Tina reluctantly gave up Bette’s hand and took a needed swig of her coffee.

    "Jesus, you make good coffee."

"I hope that’s not the only thing I do well."  Bette took a bite of toast and wiggled her eyebrows.

Tina couldn’t help but stare at Bette’s mouth, "Ummmm, let’s see.  When I land I’ll head straight to the office.  I have about 6 scripts that I need to read through.  I also have a full day of meetings tomorrow that I haven’t yet begun to prepare for, and then a cocktail slash dinner slash ass-kissing session with a new screenwriter we’re trying to woo."

"You love it though, don’t you?"

"I did" Tina sipped her coffee and stared at the toast and strawberries on her plate. "I went into this business with the idea that art had the ability to heal, to teach, you know?  But this guy Aaron came in and everything is either a slasher flick or frat boy toilet humor.  It’s the lowest common denominator.  I can’t stand it.
