I Fell In Love With A Straight Girl Ch 5
By the smell of the disinfected, I knew I was in a hospital.
My open eyes stung from the lights, when they focused I saw that Tina was slumped over in the chair next to me sleeping.
I began to speak, but something was blocking the words, then blocking my ability to breathe.
I watch Tina awake, then run to call a nurse.
In rush two nurses, who pulled a long tube out of my throat.
My mouth felt raw, and weak, the air felt dry.
Tina walked back into the room. She went to the sink and came back with a damp washcloth and a cup of water.
“Here Shane, drink this.” She said handing me the cup, then she began to pat my head down with the cold washcloth. The cool of the water gave me comfort in the hot room.
“Tina, what happen?” I asked after I drank the water, I felt like I had been sleeping for days.
“You were in a motorcycle accident Shane.” Tina’s voice was barely a whisper and her eyes were filled with tears. “You’ve been in a coma for about three days, you broke your arm and fracture three ribs.”
She was crying now, there was a lump in my stomach as my guilty took over the pain.
I brushed her tears away; she looked at me, then laid across me in a hug.
“Shane, if you ever feel lost again you can always come to us.” She mumble in my shirt. “All of us love and care about you Shane, we want the best for you.”
I stroked her hair with my hand that wasn’t in a cast, and said nothing.
I was numb from the guilt and the scare I cause my only family.
I looked down at Tina and kissed her forehead; “I’m sorry Tina, I-I” I couldn’t speak anymore. Together we held each other crying.
I hated myself for showing weakness; I hated myself for hurting anyone that could ever love me.
She fell asleep on top of me, and I quickly joined. She had the warmth of a mother I never had.
