I Need My Best Friend – Part 5
‘Tina?’
‘Wow!’
‘Tina, what are you doing here? Is something wrong? Are you all right? Come in.’
Bette led her to a chair and practically had to push her down to sit in it. Tina had not stopped staring at her since she opened the door. It was beginning to make Bette uncomfortable.
‘Tina?’
‘You look amazing. I’m sorry are you going out? I should go.’
As she stood up Bette took her hand and led her to the sofa. They sat next to each other in a very awkward silence. Then Bette realized Tina must think she has a date.
She knelt down in front of Tina and said, ‘I’m going with Kit to check out a club.’
‘I’m sorry you just look so beautiful I thought’
‘It’s okay. Why wouldn’t you!’ Bette got up and walked across the room.
Tina followed, took Bette’s hand and said, ‘Bette I’m sorry I didn’t mean anything.’
‘I wouldn’t do that, you have to believe me.’
‘I know that, I do. I was just caught off guard. The way you look I thought you must have dressed for someone.’
‘I did, for me. I just needed to feel good about myself. I haven’t for a while.’
‘I’m sorry. I feel like I’ve spoiled this for you.’
‘Let’s just start again. I’m glad you came by. What’s up?’
Tina smiled. ‘I was on my way to meet up with the girls and wanted to check in. We didn’t get a chance to talk today.’
‘I’m glad you did. I had a good day at work, how about you?’
‘Good. Busy. Bette?’
‘Yeah?’
‘I’m sorry I excluded you tonight.’
‘It’s all right Tina; I wouldn’t want you to be uncomfortable. I want you to have a good time.’
‘I want you to have a good time with Kit too. Is ten tomorrow too early? Kit’s a real night owl.’
‘You come over whenever you want. I’ll be here.’
‘I really should go.’
‘I’ll walk out with you.’
Bette walked Tina to her car, opened the door and waited for her to get in. Tina took a step toward Bette, pulled her into a hug, kissed her on the check, got in the car and drove away.
Bette stood in the drive cautioning herself against making too much of what had just happened. She had seen Tina give their friends affectionate good-byes hundreds of times. After all that’s what they are now, friends, right? She got in her car and headed to Kit’s.

Excellent as Always! Thanks
Bette is being the adult in this. She seems to be trying to do the right thing now.Maybe to little to late.
Good job! It’s nice to see both growing up… especially Bette. I love this scenario.. the middle ground compare to the rest of the series, not that the other series aren’t possible scenarios. I think this one is still not ignoring the fact that the cheating had happened but still not hysterically dramatic. It’s good. I love it. Good job!
Stop picking it apart asalways, you’re doing just fine!
“I have two objectives…” How wonderfully, perfectly Bette! Thank you.
this is great how they’re being mature about this situation good work.
This was an excellent read! I think honest communication is the essence of all relationships and Bette & and Tina are doing just that..and you, asalways, are doing a wonderful job telling it..thanks!
I have been waiting for another installment and it didn’t disappoint. Love the direction you are going in. Please keep up the good work.
I am enjoying this story,I am aware that there is another one up right now fielding the same time and how they are adapting to the seperation. The other one is more Harsh with Tina with her attitude and Bette just coming off a pity party. Yours is more in the middle and it is much softer for Tina and Bette. I don’t believe Tina would of gotten in to a relationship that quickly after the seperation, and I don’t think that bette would of fallen that low, just not her style. For Bette to have a one night thing at there house is not believeable either. I believe that Bette would have much more respect for Tina to do that, and to invite some one to dinner for the chance of things to esculate. So I like yours Better more to my thoughts. Thanks
